I believe they are making these changes to save on costs. I recall a thread with people saying teachers were overpaid to take care of your kids anyways (not you specifically nzwasp).

Is anyone else experiencing the CBE fucking with your childcare?
We just got the new schedule for our kids school near Aspen SW.
8.30am to 2.30 every day except friday where it finishes at 12pm and since we have a kid in Kindergarten, every other friday wont have school at all. Due to these and the bussing changes the afterschool care we were going to use decided they weren't going to offer it at all.
So now we are seriously considering live out nanny but at a possible 3k per month thats pretty steep.
If it's not the school it's the dayhome or daycare that fucks things up... Unfortuantely you can't do much about it unless you hire your own person

works in our favor in hidden valley having one in each school. bell times moved closer together
Machining, Fabricating, Welding etc.
Not looking forward to my kid becoming school age. I have no idea how we're going to swing that with two full-time working parents, and no other support system to speak of.

I literally changed careers mostly because of daycare timing issues. now my wife stays at home, so there's never an issue.
Is this the Robert Bondar school?
My daughter will be starting kindergarten there in September.
I haven't received the schedule yet, but have her enrolled in the before/afterschool care that is on location at the school.
When you mention that afterschool care isn't being offered, is that the one run by Summit Kids at the school or a different one? I'm hoping Summit hasn't cancelled their program or else I will be in trouble as well.
Huge pain for us too, with our youngest starting Gr1 next year and the oldest in a different school. But to be fair, it's not really CBE's fault; it's to try to accommodate the busses and save everyone a few bucks on transportation.
I've learned that pretty much everything regarding the kids' schedule is a nightmare (trying to get from a 3:40 dismissal to a 4:00 hockey practice is no picnic either), so this is just one more thing that we'll have to work around.
Yea, 3:45pm dismissal here starting next year, going to fuck up after school sports pretty bad for us. We're already borderline for time as is now with a 3:00pm dismissal haha.Originally posted by Doozer

yeah, my kids school changed start and end times as well. lucky that my dayhome lady has kids in attending the same school so it still works for us.

Two of ours start at 9:05 next year while one of them is at 8:50 in a school in a different community. Two different pickup times (early and late afternoon).
This is a second or third change to times since they started going. We are fortunate that my wife can stay at home otherwise it would be a mess.
The school system is not designed for parents convenience. Overall, if you have one parent who enjoys staying home, that's by far the best way to do it. Once you pay for before and after-care plus care on all those non-instructional days, plus the disruption in your life, it's hardly worth it to have two parents working.
That being said, staying home isn't a good option for some parents, and there are ways around all this crap, but it's a constant grind.

There are other places offering it but no one will do before /afterschool care for the afternoon kindergarten program.
It's the NDP's fault. They removed the busing fee by halving the number of buses run. So now there needs to be more time between start bells.
Well which of you is at fault here as the NDP got a majority?Originally posted by suntan

Anyways, I've got to thank all of you for the amusement in this thread - sure glad those days are behind me.
Yea, they're not even looking at the true logistics of this. There are so many days in a year where winter conditions/traffic accidents and other delays pretty much guarantees kids are dropped off late after school starts. By partnering routes, the late start/dismissal schools are going to be fucked on those days, doubling up the delay.Originally posted by suntan

Teachers are going to rack up unpaid overtime waiting for busses. That's going to be hilarious.

I think it's a good idea to use CT instead, shitty days? Leave earlier. Not sure why parents are bitching about it, I've used CT to get to school back in Grade 3 with no issues.
