Sure as hell not me. This is the whole problem with the NDP - they promise awesome things and they never turn out how people expect.

We just got the new schedule for our kids school near Aspen SW.

8.30am to 2.30 every day except friday where it finishes at 12pm and since we have a kid in Kindergarten, every other friday wont have school at all.

We have had a similar schedule since day 1, so no change but still a hassle. I always questioned other parents whose kids didn't get early dismissal.

Don't understand why some schools do and others do not.

All joking aside though, this will be a huge deal with the lower grades as they are the ones that really rely on the bussing companies where as high school kids are usually on their own to get to school. There will be some parents that will make a stink but it won't be as prevalent as it will be with the elementary schools.

So how long is lunch time at elementary. Why is there an optional fee for lunchtime supervision I would expect all kids would need to pay it?

Hours are set by the school.

Lunchtime supervision fee is optional since your kid may not stay at school for lunch.

Lunch is just less than a hour at our elementary, I think supervision is about $250 for the year. A bargain in my eyes.

Yupp, our kids walked home for lunch in elementary, junior high and often while in senior high as well - helps when all three levels of schooling are within 4 blocks of home.

3 kids, 3 separate schools. All bussed. And they changed the middle kid to early dismissal Fridays next year so my Friday afternoon I have one out at 12:30, one out at 1:20 and one out at 3:45. Awesome. But it saves me $1000 in Sept, so there's that. Looks like I'll be staying home for a few more years, no way to work around this craziness without a nanny.

This parent has a pretty good point:

    http://www.calgarysun.com/2017/06/05...-transit-rides

He explained that while many junior high students have already adjusted to Calgary Transit, parents who enrol their kids in alternative programs should expect some unpredictability around transportation.

"The School Act only requires school boards to transport students to their regular program," he said.

"Alternative programs are a unique decision made by parents."

Parents say it seems as if they're being blamed for_choosing alternative programs after the CBE held open houses promoting them, inviting students from all over the city to attend.
This is a fun thread from 2 years ago on how CBE got themselves into this insane transportation mess:

    http://forums.beyond.ca/showthread.php?threadid=393926

You basically have kids living beside a school that didn't beat the lottery getting bussed to a far away land for school haha. The lottery system is messed in priorities:

    http://www.cbe.ab.ca/registration/re...r-Parents.aspx

It promotes siblings going to the same school together, but adds transportation costs, and now that they're cutting costs for those that are the first child in the school system, so it's your fault for not going to your designated school that you can't get into in the first place with your first child, unless they change schools at some point back to their designated school, and not see their friends.

Whats the logic behind this? Not like older/younger siblings are going to hang out/want to be around each other.

I understand if its easier for two kids to go to the same school, but that shit changes anyways when they go to middle school/high school, so it really makes no difference.

You must not have kids. Sometimes it's two days and then after a month, they change the start times and bus schedule again. This will sometimes happen a few times throughout the year. I'm just happy my kids are at the age they can take the transit themselves and I don't need to deal with the transportation and other scheduling BS.

It's normally a cluster fuck those first few months. This is going to be insane level cluster fuck. I wonder how many kids are going to be "lost" in that first week. It's normally 1-2 per route (anecdotally) so I'm interested to see how organized it is with MASSIVE changes and three days notice. Lol.
