So, after a decade of good use the basic standard ball plunger in my toilet needs replacement.
Is it worth it to get one of those low noise contraptions, or are they still unreliable in the long run?

Cocoa $11,000 per tonne.
i just replaced mine, used one of these ones, found it at one of the big box stores, seems to work fine and was very simple. also has a small adjustment screw if you want more or less water, i think it works based off pressure.

How much is a kit?
You may as well buy a $99 toilet and replace it. Being a decade old your toilet probably uses double the water too.

Just get a new toilet, they are very cheap.
the kit is like $13, $100 toilets are $100 for a reason....
not to mention the install of a new float is unthreading 2 water connections, a new toilet is a little more than most people are comfortable with.

^that's the same kit I swapped all of ours to, cheap and easy, 5-10 minute job.
i have tried to replace a few and ended up just replacing the toilets lol
Machining, Fabricating, Welding etc.
Fluidmaster. They are awesome.
I've used one on every toilet I've ever repaired.
Tee only toilet I've replaced is one that got cracked while stored during a renovation.
