You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

You would need to do a substantial amount of damage to a tree to hurt it. Cutting back branches or leaves is no big deal. I've cut back many trees and they recover perfectly fine.
That may be the case, but I believe it's far safer to trim in late fall or early winter. I think it depends on the tree but a rule I was told was "if the month doesn't end in 'r' don't prune". They can start bleeding and not stop of they're in an active growth phase. Killing your neighbor's tree will fuck your shit up.
I pruned a blue spruce in summer and it hated it!

Just a quick bump here, had my tree removed by six tree last week and very happy with the results. Great price too!

    I would happily recommend them.

Contacted Six Tree as per recommendations here, they told me to pound sand, in a much nicer way. "I am sorry but we are not currently able to take on this kind of work. We recommend The Arborest at 403 240 0266." Not sure exactly what they mean, I just wanted my big ass tree pruned, which they state they do on their page, perhaps too small of a job. Oh well, contacted the Arborest, we will see what they say.
