Am i overthinking needing discs? I've been using them on all my roadies, and really don't want to go 'back' to rim brakes.. everything about discs makes sense to me, even at the weight tradeoff

Disc brake is not critical riding around Calgary. We don't have long descent on switchback. Fast descent that requires hard braking is rare. You can choose to not ride in a downpour. That being said I think my next road bike will have disc brakes.

If you ever think you'll race, know that discs aren't allowed.

No real urge to race at this point other then low-key tri's where they don't care

I'm in no rush to go disc. I do have them on my CX and Commuter bikes, but for Tri and road I've found rim brakes fine.
Only situation I avoid is heavy downpour with carbon wheels, but even they have improved with new braking compounds and surfaces.

For triathlon (even Ironman) - Disc brakes are a go. The International Triathlon Union (ITU), approved the use of disc brakes for competition in 2016 that aren't draft legal.

ABA and UCI races are also disc legal.
That being said, I thought I’d want to go disc for my next bike, but I haven’t found a real need for it yet other than wanting new tech, which isn’t a real reason.

Taking the ghost in on Thursday. Based on what they have online, not looking hopeful that the money stays at MEC. Struggling to find a suitable replacement for similar funds is the one thing, virtually all sales seem done.

I went from caliper to disc break this year and I don't race.
the main reason I went with disc is for braking reliability (although I'll never ride it in the wet lol), ease of install and no rim wear.

bikes with disc brakes are also becoming more aerodynamic with through axle, center-lock disc and flat mount) so to me it's just the slight weight and cost that you will be paying for.

Tire clearance is one reason to go disc, being able to run 28/30mm tires on a road bike is sublime!

Mecs ‘make things right’ was letting me put the refund $$ towards a new bike, and give me 10% off (as it was a club night). Ridleys seem overpriced for what the components are so I’m a little heavier in the wallet but currently N-1!

Man there's nothing that even remotely interests me on the MEC website. They had a Ghost bike listed on there for 33% off but by the time I realized it was the same as the one you're returning, it was gone haha

This is nuts to me. I get it if you're biking around eau claire, but come on, $400 for 10 over? Dont i have to be going like 40 over to get the same while driving?
