Built another bike for a buddy... found this complete, but rough 70s Japanese built supercycle on kijiji for free... tore it down, tossed all the litespeed take offs on it, kinda like it. 9x2 ultegra, forged sugino crank, good stuff

That's a removal tool not an install tool. If you take the bare frame to a bike shop they'll usually do it for next to nothing.

I think one (inner and outer) might be fine, 3 would add quite a bit. I'm no expert and I haven't stayed at holiday inn express lately.

This is a good deal for a bike stand IMO.

Had to go back in time to 2016 to find a 63cm frameset:

That's not how the fork goes into the frame.

Little something for this old workhorse... the chain dropping finally annoyed me enough to do something about it, went up 2T and went oval for the narrow wide, quick test and it’s holding on well, can’t wait to put it through it’s paces

Nice. I am considering that for next year's upgrade.

Bought these and installed them last night on the gravel:

Hard to say how much of this is from the shape and tooth count, and how much is just from having the confidence to actually shift gears without the chain dropping... but, damn! Same route, same time of day, roughly same “freshness”

Those are completely different effort levels if your heart rate data is accurate. Strangely enough, your slower time seemed like you were working harder. Max speed is also massively different - that's a big downhill and not fitness related - did anything else bike wise change? Besides that, tough to compare commute times with a lot of variability in the ride (intersections, traffic, wind, tire pressure, etc).
