I'm asking, but I'm asking for a friend.
Find a good tailwind day and you'll snag it. Roll into it hard from Eastbound Elbow. Wear a skinsuit.
See I think eastbound is the issue... timing a left across traffic kills speed... I have started to wear clips since my last go too... so I mean, it should be eaaaasyThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Yeah, not the safest segment to hammer it on. I like mine uphill and with zero traffic.
I love traffic... well, heavy slow moving traffic. that stretch just has this NYC vibe during rush hour haha
Classy. Now go get icecream on it.
That’s the plan! Although now I want to restore another one lol; a road one or hybrid with more gears. 14 speed methinks. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Old steel 10 speeds with downtube shifters are popular...my dad has two old sekines, all original from the 70s that I've wanted to fix up for a while now...This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Anyone have spare clipless pedals that won’t slip in the rain?
Mine are generic and sucks when wet.
i may have some old M520 SPD clipless pedals at my sisters place. have a bunch of Shimano SPD pedals at home and a A520 and A600 on their way, I'm a hoarder of pedals hahaThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Won't that sorta ruin the whole look/point of a retro bike? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I'd try to source some grippy flat pedals that fit the style of that bike. Clipless defeats the purpose a bit
Clipless = actually clipped in
....maybe just bolt some retro cages on with some honey leather straps
How big of difference do clips make for longer road journeys? I've used them a few times at spin classes and they seemed nicer. Been doing ~20k rides the last few days along the river and been considering converting my bike.
For efficiency they are great... little annoying for an urban bike though (walking in and out of establishments sucks) little annoying from light to light constantly snapping in and out... not much different than cages in that aspect though. Overall I’m happier with them than without though
Casual ~20km clipless is not really necessary. only if your feet slips easily or you want to improve your efficiency. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I'm using wide flat pedals like these on all my commuter bikes and climb center street bridge everyday on my way home.
if you are looking for SPD, I may have a M530, M520 and A520 that I might look into getting rid soon.
slightly related question but would a stiffer sole do anything with hot foot?
did my first 3hr+ ride last week and apart from my butt getting sore, I started experiencing hot foot. was thinking getting stiffer bike shoes (currently using Shimano M065).

Wow shows how much I know. I just need grippy pedals.

Something like these would likely fit in well with the style of your bike. No idea where to get these locally though... Also comes without the toe straps in a similar style.
