Default A mid-engined Corvette is coming?

Saw an article this morning talking about an incoming mid-engined Corvette: http://www.corvsport.com/2019-c8-corvette/

I'd love to see that happen, though a few things in the article keep me from getting too excited:
    • A potential 1,500 horsepower engine?
    • $80k USD sticker. Seems low?
    • Sources seem to be other vette sites... nothing official.

    Think it will happen?

They've been talking about it for 2 generations. Don't hold your breath till it's shown.

That one smells especially like bullshit.

I'm not sure how I feel about a mid-engined vette. The corvette is almost synonymous with front engine rear drive, but it's getting harder to compete with the superior mid engined platform in many racing series. It would be fascinating to hear the discussion at headquarters to see what the different departments want from the Corvette.

I'm with Rage, they've been hyping a mid-engine for years.
This is all a publicity stunt as per usual.

Most you'll see is them testing one on a racing series but I doubt that too.
American's love lifting the hood, not the rear lid.

The Camaro is so extremely fast now they could let it be the FR sports car, and move the Corvette to mid-engined... it's supposed to be a world class sports car, and it seems like the last generation just didn't get it done. The Z06 hardly gets talked about at all compared to the previous two generations.

There have been quite a few pictures of a mid-engined vehicle being tested by GM along side the next gen Corvette. Maybe it won't be called a Corvette, maybe it'll be called the Stingray.

I believe it will happen and it will be a vehicle that'll impress for the monies one will have to lay out for it
    Will fuck off, again.

0% chance it gets anywhere near 1500 HP. I have been reading about this thing forever - it's definitely a "believe it when we see it" car now.

Mid engine and move away from Camaro. Not a bad idea at all.

I would bet they will take the Z06 engine, throw it in the middle, add some carbon fiber bits and starts it at $120K USD.

That said, if they can't figure out how to cool down Z06 in the front, can they really cool it in the middle?

There is something big coming. Lots of rumours circulating.

GM is in a position to take the lead and enter the big boy realm. FCA is done with the viper, Ford has one more kick at the cat with the Gt500 but after that they're done too I fear. New CEO says they're moving HARD to the mobility company outline which probably means the end of ford performance, or greatly neutered.

No secret GM has a DOHC V8 coming. It could be a 700hp NA monster.

Next thing you guys will come up with is GM has invented a replacement for pushrods. Don't be rediculous.

FCA got Ferrari, don't really need another crown jewel.

Ford got f'd on not doing more on EV/Hyrbrid/Autonomous driving. They already got Ford GT out the gate for halo project. They are good for a while riding on that.

GM is doing everything right IMO. They are on top of EV with Bolt and now sending them out for autonomous testing. They just need a halo car.

A mid-engined Vette would be a helluva halo car.

I fully expect Chevy to do the stereotypical thing where they shit the bed, then roll in it till its flattened out 3 feet wide, then stamp out a brand new "Fiero" for the masses to express their horror at.

Interesting part is that used Ford GT are already at $400K, so pricing the new GT at $500K at a limited run was quite an easy sale.

Consider GM is bring Corvette upscale, the increase in price may not be as tolerable by the market. Look at cool reception of the $150-$200K NSX. The brand just doesn't command that kind of price. So GM definitely has a price ceiling of around $150K if this mid engine beast is getting the Corvette name plate.

No doubt its going mid-engine. It's also going to ditch the pushrods, they're pretty much at the limit performance wise with the small block. I wouldn't be surprised if they roll the mid engined as a ZR1 and leave the front engined model as the "bargain" version.
