Hiring an independent is usually a complete waste of money. Most of them get 99.9% of their work from insurance and they aren't going to bite the hand that feeds them for you.

If you want post as many pictures as you can of the damage to the car, as well as the insurance guy's estimate (i'd need your insurance company name to know what profile to use/vin/km too) if I have time tomorrow i'll see how likely it is that thing gets toasted as soon as someone does a teardown.
