Just got a message from a recruiter on LinkedIn and I asked for the rate for the contract they were offering. It was with a bank and IT BA role and they are offering $80/hr. She told me that after COVID the rates for similar positions have gone down and that I should adjust my expectations (originally I mentioned I would be looking for $100 just to start the conversation)

Just a single data point so take it as a grain of salt, but maybe does confirm the trend of rates coming down this year

The acquiring company, if they are smart, uses this an an opportunity to slice and dice as well. If nobody from the acquiring company loses their job that's a terrible sign.

It's usually favoured but not much more than 60-40. Consider Jacobs-ECR & Worley. I think that's about two years in and Jacobs people are hanging on very well. Many Worley mid/upper managers have been tossed and replaced with Jacobs people. I bet it's close to 50/50 there.

$140/hour roughly works out to be about 291k per year based on a 40 hour work week
shit I thought $50/hour would be a decent salary in these times. Guess I'm in the peasant class of beyond lol

This is a big part of it, actually. If you're 60+ and don't feel like working more than 1,000hr/year, then that can be a motivation to crank your rate up to $200/hr.
That guy wants us to use him as little as humanly possible and I want to use him as little as humanly possible. Goals = aligned! Get your magic shit done and GtFO!

you guys need to talk to the unions and get on that "standard" 35 hour work week being full-time. That's the ticket.

Its crazy that the city could reduce their headcount by 14% by just making people work 40 hour weeks.

Hah, I ate a chachis in brookfield today. is that Hula any good?

Only dude I know who's been promoted over the years got those promotions by basically taking on the new higher role, and not giving up the previous role. Dude works like 80 hours a week during normal times, and more when it's busy. Gross.

Hula is OK but it's 90% rice mixed with tons of mayo, and 10% fish and veggies. I've tried most of their flavors and it's not my cup of tea, but the lineups used to be enormous so maybe I am in the minority on that one.

Hah! no way, I was sitting in the enchanted forest.

Honestly, its mediocre at best. I much prefer the Chachi's mac and cheese when I plan on feeling gross.

We have been living off companies who still hire 60+ year old people. Why reduce costs by bringing in better people who are younger when you can hire 60+ year old people to manage outsourced projects because its too expensive to do it in house!
