Does 40 hours a week even cover rent for a 100 sq ft apartment in HK?
    It almost does.

Is it respect thing or something? Hongers will respect whitie more in an english class than an Asian looking person, even if Asian person is just as qualified or better?
If you are native English speaking Asian, you MIGHT get 40-50 CAD an hour. I had a short gig many years ago at that rate. White people feel more authentic to Hongers. And yes, its racist and unequal.

For those contractors with the $200/hr+ charge rates, can you guys comment on what their roles/titles are? And how they positioned themselves into these roles? Aka. What can I do to be like them.

Just get on with a higher end male escort agency and you'll easily be billing more than that. Just hope you're not squeamish...not everyone is ready to do what it takes to make the big bucks!

I don't know who's making that now, but back in the day when I hired consulting engineers, the guys making the higher end (which was $160/hr at the time, others were $140 and $120) were experienced guys with 8-30+ years of professional oil and gas engineering experience, and the guys who made the top pay rate also didn't charge me for overnight calls or weekend work, they just charged a flat 40 hours per week no matter what. I had a few 3 AM phone calls to them, sometimes from me, sometime from the field operations.

By the time I had my own company, I was making MUCH less than minimum wage on the hours actually worked. We didn't charge the customer per hour, but if you back out the invoice into the hours I was "visible" to the client, it was all over between $100/hr to my personal best of $580/hr. Overall, I basically broke even with that company, I think maybe I'm not a good entrepreneur.

I've looked at some service company engineering roles this year, and I think going rates for a fully experienced P.Eng. on the service side ranges from $40-$80/hr these days. There might be some commission on top of that, although some companies aren't selling anything, so commission on $0 is $0.

My personal take is that anyone in oil and gas who is currently employed and makes over $100k/year, you are doing fine and are paid well. Don't complain. There's ten people waiting to take your place at a lower salary.

I should maybe start a thread about ditching your pimp in EPC. I might not know enough to carry the thread, but I'm sure there are others in here that can offer a lot.
    This isn't very "Cenovus" talk.

I agree with this, my overall income is down almost $100k in lost incentives and RSU's and I still feel fortunate. It is what it is right now in the industry, still feel luckier than most.

IF you make more than Cerb, you are fortunate. That's legit Cenovus talk. Because that's the line the laid off Cenovus people should shoot for. Beating Cerb, even if it's only by a small amount.

More real talk for Cenovus people, if you have two properties and can't pay for em, sell one asap, even at a loss. Nobody gives a shit if you have a massive mortgage on your lake property and the payments are a little hard to make with uncle Justin's money.

The heating and cooling business on the O&G side is pretty common to pull that kind of money. Recently people in the industrial fans business have been making bank. Just plug your info into onlyfans.com and it'll show all the people in that profession.

Well, Saudi, Dubai, Oman, Abu Dhabi, and of course, China. That list of countries own like half the companies in town already.

If that was such a good idea they would have done it without government involvement.

That fact that the government is trying to convince them just proves to me taxpayers are going to get shafted on this if it happens.

Probably. But what is the alternative? If it brings in jobs and gives us some relief to weather the storm for the next 10 years, I bet you most will support it.

    People getting desperate.

    I see it slightly different.

I bet the Saudi's would have done it regardless. BUT they simply make a statement to the government who will now bend over backwards to make it happen reducing the cap-ex from the Saudi's pocket.

Exactly. Why spend the entire $5b of your own cash when a desperate government is willing to help pay to get it built.

    Just like Irving out east.

Wait... If one company bought out another one, doesn't the company that got bought usually take the hit of job loss?

More or less. However there's always someone at the acquiring company who has pissed off someone else.

The acquiring company, if they are smart, uses this an an opportunity to slice and dice as well. If nobody from the acquiring company loses their job that's a terrible sign.
