Can't speak for everyone but in my personal experience the people who work 150k salary jobs are too entitled.
Had a buddy who got let go during the last round, after his EI ran out he still wasn't working so I suggested that he got to Walmart or Costco to get a temp job and keep food on the table
His response was "I would never work those jobs, I'd rather sit at home then go and work for $15 dollars an hour". Sure enough he's going through a separation as money conversations got ugly and he refuses to work now for anything less than 100k per year.
Meanwhile the wife was working at Co-op to try to keep things afloat
This was exactly what I was getting at.

What a fucking loser, sorry that he is your buddy but the truth hurts. The wife deserves better.

Most people in this city are still relatively well off and will have no need to fire sale their home. There's enough government programs, and EI to keep afloat for at least the next year with some discretionary spending oversight. Further, most of these people have investments/RRSPs. The people that go under, would have done so if oil was $100. Either way, its unfortunate.

That's BS. When the bottom fell out in 2015, one of my buddies worked Superstore stocking until he got back to an engineering gig a year or so later.

That's said, trying to get a min wage job is easier said then done if you came off a 6 digit salary. Most employers doesn't want to bother, especially you got the wrong attitude.

Yeah it's actually shocking difficult to get minimum wage work when you are 40+ professional. Source, I had issues doing exactly that.

Went and patronized the Poke bowl place in Cenovus’s brand new empty building, no one in line. Tough times over there.

Isn't that why you got that gig at the rental place? You clearly made it work and not an entitled EIT.

And as mentioned before, your shirt idea which help you land your job was a stroke of genius. Props for life on making it work and being creative with it.

I never used to be such an asshole as you. But I have leveled up and agree.

The industry has been pure shit for years to the point that $40 WTI and $10 netbacks are being celebrated. If you didn't see this coming, it on you, and the shitty government with no foresight, but mostly you. It's infuriating to see people complain about not having enough savings when the fucking EIT is driving a tricked out Honda Fit while taking multiple expensive vacations a year.

Granted, there are plenty of good people like ExtraSlow who makes $150K+. We shouldn't put them in the same bucket and we shouldn't be upset at them. Remember that this entire province has been more or less built on O&G, allowing many of us to afford some nuggets once in a while. I simply don't feel the need to pray for them.

    Neg rep me bitches.

Yeah that deal at the car rental place was only because I knew someone there really well. I was totally unable to get jobs elsewhere for minimum wage, including at Amazon warehouse, and a few other places that have the reputation for "always hiring". I can't explain it, but people seem to really prefer people who look like they can't do any better. I don't know if they think the dedication will be higher, or what, but employee turnover in those positions is really high anyway. Hard to see someone like me as a worse "flight risk".

That is true, which further emphasizes the need to keep saving more than what you think you need.

So if you make 145k does that mean you aren’t entitled anymore?

You simply escape judgement for ordering a Poke bowl in the middle of a panda-cession.

Thing is, I usually am very reasonable and respectful of people. But there are some people who need a kick in the nuts to understand. It's just the way it is, unfortunately. Trust me, I give a lot of benefit of the doubt until I can't.

Yup. It's because they know you're gone the instant something better comes up. Did you take all your O&G stuff out of your resume when you were applying?
