I went through it in the other thread. I will stop derailing this one.

Yeah it's actually shocking difficult to get minimum wage work when you are 40+ professional. Source, I had issues doing exactly that.
Dude I followed your threads on the shift out of O&G. Even the car rental place, you clearly aren't in the entitled group and made it work to support you and your family

This was exactly what I was getting at.

What a fucking loser, sorry that he is your buddy but the truth hurts. The wife deserves better.
No skin off my back. I even offered to help him get into Transit where I work part time.
Turned it down as he thought bus driving was a low level job so I stopped trying to help him. Nothing you can do for someone with that kind of mindset

I would love to work for CT part-time. Would be an interesting experience too.

Anyways, I feel like we can also do our part by being more constructive with our comments in person too. We always like to say the good things but rarely do people offer constructive criticism to others in the workplace. If the intent is honest, I don't mind a difficult conversation now and then. If only we cared about each other a bit more to say something, we might not see as many of these entitled folks. A little bit a shaming isn't a bad thing if it results in a positive outcome (even if the person doesn't see it positively at first). Tough love is hard to beat.

I’ve always got a place chopping onions in my buddies kitchen for min wage. Between that and monetizing my truck, lawn mower, and snowblower I am set for life.

Like I said. Supreme Chairman Li is teh geniuses.

    https://www.barrons.com/articles/big..._DAY_Theme_1_3

Investors didn’t seem particularly enthusiastic about the deal in Monday morning trading. Cenovus shares (ticker: CVE) were down 13%, while Husky stock (HSE.TO), which trades in Toronto, was up 6.8%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 2.6%.

Investors are concerned about the size of the premium for Husky. Most recent oil-and-gas deals have been done at a modest premium of less than 15%. But this one comes at a 21% premium to Husky’s pre-deal price, and a 23% premium including warrants that Husky shareholders are expected to receive with the deal.

The combined company will also have quite a bit of debt. Including the debt, it is a $23.6 billion transaction, the companies said. In the latest quarter, Cenovus had 10.1 billion Canadian dollars worth of net debt, or US$7.7 billion, while Husky had C$6.6 billion.

So is the 24 billion including Cenovus debt and husky debt (16B) and then 4 billion for each company ?

Out of all the numbers being tossed around, the 24 billion is the dumbest and most irrelevant.

More from the article if you are paywalled.

The price might overvalue Husky, Credit Suisse’s Manav Gupta wrote. “While the deal makes strategic sense, [we] see 23% premium as excessive. Given Cenovus asset quality is far superior to Husky, particularly on the thermal side, a mid to high single digit premium would have been sufficient.” Following the announced deal between Chevron (CVX) and Noble at a 7.4% premium, “the deal dynamics have changed and plus-20% premium is viewed as excessive.”

Cenovus doesn’t have a great recent history with acquisitions. The stock has fallen 64% since it bought the Canadian assets of ConocoPhillips (COP) in 2017.

I was feeling better about all this until I saw how much of Cenovus I indirectly owned ffs.

It doesn't get any easier in the 30-40 bracket either unless you look really young for your age.

Wait, what kind of "professional" work are you talking about ES?

Do you mean 6 months of liquid savings with the package?

Because we’re talking 30-40G sitting around in savings.

Do people have that? Good question.
I'd hope so. One of the first steps of financial literacy is understanding the importance of emergency savings.

EDIT: Woah. Read the rest of the thread. Oops.

40g liquid savings might be smart, but is crazy rare.

You would think AB would be master of this given boom/bust cycles of oil.

    Wholeheartedly agree.
"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents... some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new Dark Age."

The actual amount doesn't matter. $40k would not suffice me for six months with my current expenses (thanks 2 x mortgages). The key is having enough cash to cover 6 months of expenses, whether that's $6k or $100k.

    Kind of my thinking.
Word. 40K cash for a single dude with one mortgage/rent should last okay for 6 months. Unless this individual blows his money on hooker and blow even after losing his/her job, then millions wont even be enough.

With your case, I assume your 2 mortgages includes one with rental income? Otherwise, tough nuggets. Better start cutting cost and finding ways to fill that gap. Rent out the other property and sublet your basement or something.

Having that saved up once is one thing. People are still trying to dig out of holes since 2015.

I know the counter argument to that is that you have to be able to cover expenses no matter what, and if you haven't got the savings you need to start cutting expenses. I'm just saying it's tough to do more than once in a short period of time.

My boss is trying to find a general labourer right now. The amount of engineers that apply is quite high. I convinced him to at least give some a chance as he was doubtful of how long they would last as a labourer.

Let's just say the few he did call, didn't do any other educated people down on their luck, any favours. Extremely entitled, and didn't even know who we are or what we do. One guys first question was "how much you paying?"
