Oh I know all the different uses of oil very well. My family in nz always goes on about how we should just stop producing it but they don’t realize that there clothing is made from it and it delivers their food etc. I thought a lot of peak oil was not because of oil running out but because it’s too expensive to produce, deposits harder to reach etc.
That's old thinking. That's talking about peak oil SUPPLY. It's now cooler to talk about peak oil DEMAND. Get hip.

While peak oil is far, oil will be a majority of global energy demand even in the best energy transition scenario. However, economics of production remains challenged. There is plenty of oil to go around and despite all the lack of investment this year, no one is calling huge relief to oil prices. Refining in US is in the gutter and once that improves, only then will Upstream pick up. $45 WTI doesn’t bode well for Canadian energy. Will it survive? Yes. Will it prosper? No.
Word, the profitability of each company is not guaranteed. Lots will lose money and dissappear.
