I write cheques and receive them all the time. As a small business owner, especially if you are dealing with other small businesses or people over the age of 40, that's the way it goes. Lawyers, accountants, condo fees, etc etc etc. I use cheques way more than cash. I'd prefer everything to be EMT however.

I don't mind cheques, way better than cash unless someone tries to bounce one on you. You get a pretty good idea who those kind of people are though quickly.

We probably write 15 - 20 a year but it's almost all tied to the kids and school / sports. Once that's done I think personal cheques will be pretty rare. For the business though I probably write five to ten a month.

Side note...personal pet peeve is check instead of cheque. You live in Canada for crying out loud, cheque, colour, neighbour, doughnut.

Yes, this is what happens when you marry a school teacher.

My landlord requires Cheques everyone month on the first.

They insist on every first of the month to collect. No e-transfers or post dated cheques. It can get annoying.

Collect rent cheques, give parking rental cheques, received consulting cheques (always), expense cheques.

Still working through the 50 I had to buy like 8 years ago though lol.

Day-to-day spending is always card or cash.

I just go to the bank any time I need a check. I haven't actually sat down and wrote one out myself in years. Maybe 10 years or so? Up until maybe a year or so ago at work we had our expenses sent by check, and every once in a while I get one from the government but that's about it.

Side side note - can't stand when people ask for the "cheque" in a restaurant. Seems to be mostly an American thing but I've heard it here too. ARGH. It's a bill!

If the waitress is giving you money, then it's a cheque. When she's asking for money, it's a bill!

I write more cheques now then I did 15 years ago. Reason? Kids. School always wants cheques and same with some of the sports they do. The day care I am currently at also require a monthly cheque. A year or so ago I actually had to order new cheques.
Before kids I thought I had a life time supply. lol

BC speeding fines are still recommended to pay by cheque, or so it says on the back. A friend told me this BTW.

When I moved here ten years ago I was working for a family business. My sister wrote me a cheque. I was like 'what the fuck is this?' She said it's cheque, I was like... I know that! But what are you doing giving me a cheque, just direct deposit my pay into my bank. She said no.. they still use cheques here... I was like daaaaa fuuuuuuuuuck....?!!! It kinda explained why so much 80's music was (and still is) played on the radio..

Last time I used a cheque was rent and writing a deposit for my down payment on my home in 2014.
