Shaw Internet - retention?

Shaw bumped up my internet again, so now im paying $80 for internet 25 (....ya get with the times). Seems that i can certainly get a better deal elsewhere, but before i do figured i'd bug shaw.

are they similar to the cell phone companies when you're not contracted, or do they just have their way with you?

I think you could just flip over to BB150 for the same price if you are fine paying $80.

$35/mth for 20Mbps, unlimited data. Dont' have to buy modems, they will sent it to you. I'm testing this for my folks because they are not heavy users.

Some people had success talking to Shaw CSR to price match these guys but only limited to 6 months or a year. Since they are off Shaw's infrastructure anyway, may as well give them a try.

Internet 30 is only $75 on their website. You can call them and just say you want to cancel. They will put you through to retentions but normally they give you a 6-12 month promo rate. I've done it a couple of times and it's a pretty easy process.

Be prepared when you threaten to cancel. Tell them you are cancelling because you are going to another company. Do your research and see what promos/prices are available from other companies and they will get you something similar.

internet 25 used to be 73$, and now probably 80. They seem to do rate hikes every year (sometimes twice in a year).

If youre going to be paying 80 for 25mbps, you might as well goto the 150.

But yea alternatively you can go with the re-sellers, will save $$ for sure.

are you in a telus area optic area, dont depend on the telus maps first level sales,

they have TELUS unlimited 150 + 150 upload (speed tests will do 170-200) for 80

when they installed ours out in laws they fished the cable from the box down the street (newer community)

In some older communities inner city they have it as well. (over head)

i have a shaw retention promo on my account, to get it i emailed them a signed cheaper Telus plan with an install date for my address and told them to beat it or I would be going with Telus.

My advice with dealing with retentions in any case is be prepared to leave.
