    Default Your key ring setup

Just happened to notice that all but one of the keys on main key ring are attached so that their uncut backs all face the same direction and the cut edges face the other direction. Now knowing how anal some people can be, I would imagine that every key on their key ring has to face in the same direction and that there probably is a right and wrong way for them to setup a key ring - vehicle keys in a certain place, house keys in another place, padlock keys in another place on the ring, etc, etc..

So how do you set up your key ring(s) - I have no particular way I set mine up and currently I have 8 keys on my main key ring and maybe the only oddity is that what is a temporary key is on a mini-ring attached to the main ring. Oh and all three of my key rings has an aluminum bottle opener attached to them, all are different styles of openers but useful when least expected.
    Will fuck off, again.

Currently running low maintenance. FAST key fob, remote starter, and a house key. Loving not having a giant wad of keys in my pocket anymore.

I'm pretty anal about having a logical order to things and my key ring is no different. I basically carry what I need, when I need, in the order of importance/use, and yes, flat sides together.

I use one of these for my "main" key ring so I can add and detach sets of keys easily:

On this key ring, I keep on one ring (in the following order) condo fob, house key, mail key, toolbox lock key #1 (to the toolbox I use the most), toolbox lock key #2. On another ring, I keep the keys to my bike locks, again in the order of most to least used bikes. The little carabiner clip is to quickly attach and detach things I need at the time but don't use often (ie: when I'm borrowing someone's key). When I travel, it gets trimmed down to just my condo fob and house key. And if that wasn't anal retentive enough, I have an identical backup key ring organized in exactly the same way in case I lose the first, which came in handy when I dropped my keys down the elevator shaft and the service guys weren't going to be on-site for at least another month haha

And because I don't drive often, I keep a separate key ring for my car key, my car remote, my condo door remote, and keys to peoples' houses I can't get to without a car. When I'm out and about in my car, my main key ring just stays in the car cupholder, cause again I don't like carrying what I don't need and I don't need my "house stuff" when I'm not at home.

I also have a third ring that's just my motorcycle key with a mini carabiner since I don't like things dangling from my bike's ignition while I'm riding. The mini carabiner clips to my front, right belt loop when I'm out with my motorcycle but not riding.

    I have too many...

House Key, Main Car key, Alarm Fob, Mail Key, and a key to each my Parents and In-Law's houses all on a lanyard which I find convenient.

I would love to cut down but as annoying as it is its good to have them when you need them. I already have another half dozen random keys that I don't bring with me ever ( things like key to my golf locker etc. )

As for setup? They all just hang on the lanyard like a mess.

How I shaved keys off my set:
-Cut down on the house key by going to a code lock.
-Set of keys for my parents I keep in the car, the only way I'd be there is pretty much having driven there.

This is a good idea, only issue is when I am in my wife's car or something but that would be easily fixed by just keeping a set in each car.

I have the same problem with loyalty program cards my wallet is sad...

House/garage key, shed key, bike lock key and USB drive on a single ring. Cut sides facing the same direction and keys in order from smallest to largest.
I don't drive every day, so I don't carry my car fob unless I need it (I like it separate anyways so it doesn't get worn/scratch by my keys).

I'm surprised that car key/alarm fobs is a piece of electronics that hasn't ever really decreased in size, they make up 75% of my key ring mass.

    I run very lean.

I have my key fob (push to start) and my mailbox key. That is it. They don't come out of my backpack unless i am checking the mail.

I then have a key ring holder in the house that has the following sets:
    - Camping (RV/UTV/Dirtbikes),
    - Neighbours (keys for checking on plants, animals, ect),
    - Parents (Spare set),
    - Rental (Spare Set)
    - Misc (this is where padlocks, shed lock, tool box live).

I use each set as i need and return them immediately.

I also store loyalty cards/credit cards/bank cards on my phone. Money clip and ID is all i carry in that department.

I just have a house key attached to my truck fob, that's it. Mail key is left at home (we walk to the mailbox down the street if needed) and Mazda key and fob are on their own lanyard since the thing never gets driven. Lanyard because it's an HKS one I got at Autobacs in Japan. JDM y0

    Minimal as possible.

Each vehicle is separate. Each one of those chains only has the vehicle key, fob and a small keychain. I'm very picky about the key chain - it has to be small and indestructible (I should really be a tester for key chains because I always break them).

I can't stand the fob on my 04 mustang - stupid thing has buttons that stick out so I constantly set the alarm off and it's so bloody annoying.

    Stocard on Android.

But it still didn't replace my AirMiles because it require a swipe and I'm too lazy to type in numbers at the pump.

Does the cylinder holding the key stay locked/tight? How many keys can you get in there? The Smartkey one I got, you have to tighten it every now and then.

That orbit key looks pretty cool. I search it on google and the images show it can be expanded to like 9 keys
@SportEL , did you buy that via the Orbitkey website or is there somewhere local?

    Thanks.

I bought it on the Orbitkey website. I believe they had a sale at the time I bought it a few years back. The one they sell now is the newest version and they updated a number of features like slimmer locking mechanism, better key compatibility, better D-ring, stronger materials, padded leather band.

If you're looking to minimize the amount of keys by using this, all this is doing is adding more materials to your key ring (i.e. the leather/synthetic strap wrapping around the keys being more bulk).

I'm looking for ways to lean down my key ring also... but is hard to do hah.

    right now just:
    - key fob for ford (push button start)
    - deadbolt key
    - door knob key
    - building door/parkade key
    - Mailbox key
    - Parking spot cage key

... not OCD as to what order they are in / what direction they face though

The purpose of it to keep the keys organized and not jangling everywhere, making noise, and poking holes in pockets. You could also buy accessories with it like a bottle opener, multi-tool, and USB drive.

By the time you add those three accessories it won't fit in any pocket.
    Will fuck off, again.
