Hydrophobic beading properties does not equal protection.

Some of these off the shelf products are good as top coats or good for beading properties but they do not protect like a professional grade product. Prep is extremely important for a coating and most coatings require a cut polish to remove so isopropyl and clay bar will not remove any of the reminders from the old coatings.

Roughly 50% of the cars that I work on are brand new which require a decontamination and full polish before coating. You can just slap the coating on a brand new car but it's only as good as the prep.

My yearly detail involves basically the steps that Mitsu3000gt has posted. I invested in a Porter Cable, some quality pads, Chemical Guys compound + polish, and Meguiars Wax. Looking fwd to trying out one of the ceramic sprays.

Has anyone used any of the over-the-counter ceramic sprays for glass shower doors? Better longevity than RainX I would imagine?

Just squeegee after use. Hard water and soap grime are inevitable. Vinegar, soap, and water solution work best.

If there are stubborn areas, AutoGlym Glass Polish from Canadian Tire works well.

May I suggest the NANOSKIN AUTOSCRUB 6" PAD MEDIUM GRADE as part of your decontamination, it cuts the manual claying labor time by tenfold.

RainX isn't great, Aquapel is better if you want something or your windshield. I imagine it would work well on a shower door too but I've never tried. Or get a water softener haha.

Much cheaper than $2,500 + for ceramic coating and you can repeat the process on other vehicles, bikes, refridgerator, etc...

You can get professional coatings for considerably less than $2500. I know Rainer will do a 3 year coating for less than $1k and that includes preparation. I have usually done my own ceramic coatings as I have experience going back to the old Opti-Coat Pro days but I'm getting to that age where I'm lazier and for larger vehicles like SUV's I would rather pay someone else to do it.

How does ceramic coating last if you have your vehicle parked for long term or seasonal storage? Does it affect it at all and need a refresh, or is it more based on the amount of pressure washes you give it? I probably only needed to wash my car 5-6 times in the past 4 years.

It'll last longer if you don't drive your car through rain/snow, there should no need to refresh it.
