I spend money on loads of dumb shit. My AC bill isn’t one of them.
Imo AC up front cost is straight to home equity value for most people.

I saved money with AC when I had it since I wasn’t running three fans 24/7.
AC was cheaper than divorce. I haven't updated my spreadsheet but I think the math is still applicable.

Getting a new evaporator coil installed on Monday, 2nd summer in this house, found out last year the existing coil had a leak and couldn't run it last year.
Not going through another summer of shit sleeps during hot stretches, the last one a few weeks ago I think it was like 28 degrees on the main floor, fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck that shit.

+15 and up, mine is running. Not a lot of things beat getting into a nice cool bed every day of the summer.
So I've been informed that the 17C at night is a bit warm. Are there any physical downsides to a setpoint that's lower? Presumably the interlocks on the AC unit won't let me do anything that would damage the unit? The preference is 15C at night it sounds like and if it's just straight electrical cost we'll go there

Do you have the ability to measure the temp of cooled air at the register?
I’m not convinced my system could get me to 15 if I wanted to.

Your coils will freeze if you set it that low for an extended period. Would not recommend. In addition it will probably just run the compressor longer but not get any cooler. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Something doesn't add up here. If your entire house is 17c at bedtime, your AC is already doing great. Where is your thermostat? Have you measured the temp in other rooms?

I love cold environments and long for a full AC house but 17 and below would be f'ing cold.... are you an eskimo?! Sorry, native northern american? I dont know.

Fair enough if it's bad for it I'll leave it as is. Thanks. The thermostat is about 3m from the bed

I expected to see around 15 fur blankets on the bed for your 15C proclivities

17° year round can’t be comfortable especially if you have a female in the house.
Is that wall where the thermostat is, an exterior wall? If so maybe it’s contributing to a false reading making it seem colder than the interior air temperature really is. Do you have another thermometer of any kind? If so put it on your nightstand and see what it reads compared to what your nest is showing
Need 5x wireless thermometers scattered around your house and graphing outputs from same.

I used to work with a husband/wife team of senior, big$ engineers and one day he told me they keep their house at 16.5 all winter and that they hang their clothes to dry, indoors.
Crazy-smart people... But crazy.
17 in winter makes sense. 17 summer is madness.

So I’m guessing it takes about a month to dry clothes at 16C indoors? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I would think it's longer than a dryer... But if their humidity is low, that 16° air will be pretty thirsty. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I think they mainly wore Joe Fresh & Costco Collezioné so perhaps they dry quickly.
