Companies aren't interested in cheap modifications that make their product more desirable. That's the only logical conclusion.

I would like to see someone pop open their "premium" low noise model, probably has one of these blankets around the compressor.

When I asked about compressor covers though they were saying it would reduce the life of the compressor as it is now running hotter.

I went with 2 Tempstar TSA 6 because of the 5-year replacement warranty. I have a pie lot so space wasn’t an issue - if space was an issue I would have gone with slimline

All of them have 5 year hassle free replacement warranty and 10 year parts/labour.

Did I read that right, you got 2?

I'm not on a zero lot line and there seems to be adequate space on the side so I don't think I need to go with a slim unit. I'm wondering if there's a big enough difference in a 3.5 ton vs a 3 ton that I should consider going with the Trane. (2250SQ FT developed space)

I wouldn’t be concerned. These hermetically sealed compressors are 100% refrigerant cooled, not air. Lots of commercial a/c units come with compressor blankets and every ductless split outdoor unit I’ve worked on has them.

If you want a data driven recommendation on sizing, spend the time and run a J calculation.

Thanks, maybe I will pick one up then as mine is kind of annoying between the houses.

I think the fan is the largest source of noise on mine.

Ditto. Compressor sounds like a noisy microwave oven, fan sounds like a helicopter landing a few houses away.

On some machines there are service bulletins about the noisy condenser fans, often its a change from a 2 blade fan to a 3 or 4 blade fan with less pitch.

Got a quote.. ~ 20% higher than when we shopped around 3 yeas ago.

Think we are going to pull the trigger. Any reason to pay a premium for Tempstar vs Ducane or AirEase? Is there a big noise difference between Seer 13 vs 16?

Never accept a high efficiency furnace if you can avoid it.

Every HVAC guy tried to upsell me a new furnace, until I got Gavin in for an estimate who told me flat out he couldn't do it, lol. I guess because the way my return ductwork runs, and the furnace is large and too close to the walls to do change anything without ripping it out.

    Minisplit will be my choice.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.
