I don't use one. Would possibly make a cozy home for wire hungry rodents, that's the only benefit I see.
Ah, you see the trick is to make sure you already have an animal on the property that will eat the rodents. Most opt for a cat, we went with the skunk option and it may not have been the best choice.

Have had 2 quotes from peoppe who won't install AC on my 1991 mid efficiency furnace(s). I'd rather sweat my bag off all summer than to spend money to give myself more headaches. Here's hoping H&J comes through for me.

I went through the same thing. My old ducting wasn't quite normal so no one would only do AC install with replacing the furnace with a physically smaller unit. I waited until my furnace heat exchanger was leaking because I didn't want to replace the reliable old thing, but by the time it did all the costs of replacing both went through the roof and cost me an extra $3g over doing it 10 years prior.

3 thousand bucks for ten years of service. That's a great ROI.

Does anyone have a suggestion for technicians that know how to service the "Infinity" line of Carrier furnace/AC systems? I've called a few Carrier places but they don't want to touch the Infinity system for some reason. I want a service done and also want to switch from the old crappy digital thermostats to something that is a bit more modern.

I probably spent more than that in electricity using bedroom window AC units

Have the option to secure a previous unit. Should I go with r-410a or r-545b? 410 unit is slightly cheaper for a more efficient unit.

I'd take the x14 personally. Same warranty, 410 will be available for at least 13 more years, plenty of parts.

R-410a will be available for the next 80 years, no need to worry about that. It will just available as a recycled product at some far off point.
