    Default Renovating/insulating garages

Hey fellas, just wanted to get some feedback on those of you who insulated/drywalled your own garages. I've been doing a bit of research and for the most part, insulating with R12-R14 seems to be the common go-to for FB insulation. It's not going to be heated and will be used as a semi-workshop capacity.

Alot of the garages in DIY videos have consistent studs on center (16" or 24", maybe the odd one off) but when I measure the studs in my garage, they are random. I've got 9", 7", 24", 22.5" spacings, etc. The list goes on.

The house was built in Sage Hill (2008) by Morrison. Am I missing something or just measuring wrong?

Sounds like someone added more studs to hang stuff off or they just didn't bother to measure if all the studs are on different centers. The odd measurements won't impact you insulating, you'll just need to cut down the pieces to fit, which will just take more time.

I used Roxul for mine, went easy and wasn't hard to cut with the little insulation saw that HD sells

Hey Fraser, thanks for the reply. I took another look and it does look like he added studs. If I ignore those, the studs are indeed 24" on center.

    Thanks again!

That said, I'll still need to spend more time cutting the insulation to fit.
