    Default People with 3D printers

Just a question for people with 3d printers. How small can you print an object and how good of the quality does it get if it's too small?

I'm looking to print some accessories and parts for 1/24 scale models and just want to see if it's with it to get a 3d printer. Right now, I want to print side mirrors so firstly, can they be printed on a 3d printer and secondly, would they be good quality?

Haha way over my head! I don't even have any files or know how to get them. I've never used a 3d printer before. How can I get them?

If you want to have a local person print something you can use 3dHubs. Basically uber for 3d printers.

So if your looking to buy here is a good breakdown of the different types and costs.

For a home gamer on a cheaper FDM printer this is about the best you can get print wise. 100 mirometer resolution (notice the steps on the roof) and requires some cleanup afterwards.

Personally, the stuff i like to print Needs to be dimensional accurate. Enclosures, housings, brackets for car parts. So i get everything printed at Shapeways. NOT cheap but SLS printing is far superior. Shapeways boat test:

I'll have a look around and see what I can find. I was also under the impression that if you had an actual model, you could scan it and just copy it. Is this possible or have I been watching too many sci-fi movies?

You would want a 3d scanner then. There are local services you can pay to have these things scanned. Some smartphone apps do a fairly good job too.
Otherwise look around on websites like grabcad, If its a popular model as least 1 person has done it.

just firing up my new DLP/SLA printer. I can do some pretty fine detail stuff. Here's a test print to give you a sense of scale. This is still not fully fine tuned and only at the lowest res.

How much does it cost to get into 3D printing? I'm sure the sky's the limit, but for a decent "middle of the road" setup, what would a guy be looking st in terms of cost?

Before my dad retired from GE he got some pretty cool little trinkets from their prototype division that were 3D printed from titanium! The idea being that instead of waiting on a part for a turbine engine, a company could buy the 3D printing technology and just "print" a new part on site. Of course that technology is decades from implementation, but neat concept nonetheless.

    PM me the details please.
I have a 3d printer for jewellery, I can be within 0.05mm for accuracy.
We would need the files or specs however... unless you want your mirrors made out of gold and diamonds.

For a good quality but still at the hobbyist level just shy of 1k? The Prussia mk2s is a solid balance between better quality than all the Chinese garbage printers and the few thousand dollar pro level printers. Plus their instructions and customer service is really high level

a new offering to the market, G3D T-1000. Main reason I went with this was for the option of a larger build envelope. It's no formlabs 2 but for the money I paid for it I'm impressed

I'm going to print out 1 of each of the models you sent me. I'm trying it this morning.
