Default Key cutting & programming service cheaper than dealership? (Calgary)

I recently lost the key to my 2001 Nissan Altima GXE which has a chip in it and do not have a spare key. The dealership said it would be 55 bucks for a new key and 80 to cut and program it. I ordered a replacement key off of the internet for 11 bucks that is uncut and unprogrammed and was wondering if you guys know a cheaper place or someone who can do this for me. I would normally not have an issue paying the amount but I am only going ot be driving this car for a couple more weeks before it gets branded salvage when my insurance payout gets issued as I was rear ended and the car was written off although they gave me the option to hold off on the payment and drive the car until I found a new one which I have been doing. So, I absolutely need the car although unfortunately it is only going to be for a two week to a month period maximum which is why I would like to pay the bare minimum for this. I can get the car towed anywhere for free with AMA so I don't need a service that comes to me.

Thanks for any and all advice.

call the insurance company and see if they will cover it, you're saving them the cost of a rental car which is covered for at least a few days under most plans, despite what the insurance companies want you to believe, the payout IS negotiable.

Dan the lock man is the usual locksmith recommendation for programed keys, he is mobile.

Why would you program a key for a written off car?

    You are kinda screwed if:
    a) You lost all original keys and
    b) You feel $100 is too expensive

If you had an original key, you could do what I did which is switch the electronics over to a shell and have the key cut which cost me $2. But because you don't, you're kinda sol.

I really appreciate all the answers and sorry for taking so long to get back to you all. Someone ended up finding my keys and saw the sign in my car about lost keys and they called up the police and got the home phone number registered to the address on the plate. The police phoned me with the guy's name and number and he met me at my car and gave me my keys! What an awesome dude! Crisis averted!

Rather then start a new thread I was going to piggy back off this one. I'm also looking to have a spare key made up for my '16 golf TSI, the dealership is asking ~380$+GST for a new key (I'm assuming its made of solid gold?). Does anyone have any other suggestions on where to get a VW key cut/programmed? Paying nearly 400$ for a car key seems a little steep...

City Wide insisted that we leave a key inside the exhaust pipe so we did and confirmed. Now the vehicle is at the mechanic shop and the notes are, no key found.

WTF! Not cool City Wide, not fkn cool at all.

Yea will see how it goes. Buddy working the phones last night wasn't in this morning.

It's aggravating because everything was confirmed. The communication breakdown disappointing.

If it was a cheap fix, let it go but this isn't a cheap fix!

    $100 for TOW

    $400 for new key.

I filed a claim via e-mail as per instructions after my google review. Will update if they do anything.

Seriously tho, key inside exhaust pipe? Fk man I'd rather place it on the windshield and take my chances.
