I just got back from doing this and yeah, I definitely felt like parts of this ride could have been done better, even if they were trying to achieve the same amount of distance for the circuit. I went with two other riders and both of them got flats crossing the railroad along that shitty canal. I don't even know how that happened or how I avoided it. That said, it was still a decent ride and it's always fun when people organize these sort of events to get people out riding.

Now time for a fucking nap.
Yeah that canal pathway sucks, super bumpy from tree roots in some sections as well as the really low clearance under Deerfoot near 17th Ave. Much better if you take the lynnwood bypass and stay on the west side of the river and cut through Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. You won't get a QR code but they'll enter you into the draw manually and you still get the swag.

This was my attempt back in July, didnt follow the route to the T and went through the Inglewood sanctuary, still got the QR.
They definitely could have used a better route in the south, even in the north I was thinking of going up 10th street up to Nose Hill to get to the Crowfoot store, maybe next year.

Nice. Will probably do it next year because..

My friend and I will be doing the RBC Gran Fondo, finally, from Vancouver to Whistler on that Saturday. We were originally going to drive but got cheap flights going to Vancouver.

It's a dream to do it and after 2 years of delay (we were registered for 2020), finally it's a go this year. I'm quite excited about it!

“We are debriefing the situation internally to understand what factors caused this situation to happen after three years without incident,” organizers said in a tweet.
Trudeau's fault. Drove up the cost of food/drinks so RBC couldn't afford it. #justinflation

$450-900 registration fees and they can't even supply the aid stations LOL.

....I've seen it happen at many races, this is why I never rely on on-course nutrition anymore.

We did well! Sorry, took me 2 weeks to reply to this thread. I took some time off the bike to spend more time with my family after being on bike a lot last few months lol.

The ride was amazing. I will for sure do it again. We thought to do it next year but we are considering other events. The line ups for next year so far are: Penticton, Badlands, Transrockies and the Range (full course).

Unfortunately, yes, I've heard of what happened. I am disappointed that they kept on taking registrations even the day before the event then the supply shortage happened during. I mean, there were 7,000 cyclists. I believe it's even half way to 8,000. I number is almost double from last event in 2019.

Registrants were supposed to get the free Kits sunglasses too in the EXPO. The Expo is a public event and guess what they've done? They just kept giving away those glasses even to the public not even checking if they were even registered to the event. A lot of registered cyclists came to the expo after work around 4PM. The line was so long, you could see it outside of the Vancouver Convention Centre. They never got their free glasses. They ran out of them.

They apologized to us but they blamed the shortage of supplies because of the headwind. LOL. You guys should read their statement.

Anyway, we'll do it again but not next year. We'll see if they can get their head straight after this year's mishaps.

Same route from last year, still see a small unnecessary loop in Signal Hill and on the wrong side of the Bow river. Also looks like you get 2 water bottles now when you do the full route and 1 bottle if you do 3 locations (and 40KM).

ha, logging in works, and ya, loop is the same. man that loop sucks.

Edit two: They dont care if you use their loop. "We provide a recommended route for each city but you are welcome to be creative and come up with your own routes, as long as it meets a few guidelines outlined below."

I was finally able to log in today and now I see that it was last year's route. That was a terrible loop. I'd actually like to try this one.

I didn't fully follow the route last year, went through Inglewood instead of staying on the east river side and was still able to complete the loop and achievement.
Looks like we are getting 2 bottles for doing all 4 stops, 1 bottle if you hit 3 stops.

Yeah, I did the route CCW last year starting from Kensington, 25C+ mid-day climbing the COP switchbacks was brutal.

I think I'm going to start from Shouldice Park this time

Starting the route with that sucked as I couldn't help but try to set a PR on that segment (shaved a minute off previous time). I regretted it at the top when I remembered I still had 75K+ to ride.
