Default Century Rides, Fondos, Races, etc...

Hey everyone! Just wondering if anyone will do it this year? I want to do it and it will be my very first ride event ever. Planning to do the 100k one. Only thing that kind of holding me back is no one of my friends could come lol.

I'm on the fence. I've got events surrounding that weekend, so was hoping to get a bit of a rest weekend in.

If we all ride together then we can shield ourselves from the wind and take turns pulling...?

OP's talking about this, not their weekly group rides.

I signed up for the 160k. Usually do the Conquer Cancer ride but couldn't make it this year and wanted something to work towards. First time doing over 100k in a day, so looking forward to it. I've done a few training rides but will increase efforts after vacation

Has anyone had a Bike fit done at Mec? It's only $120, but is it just joe dude on the sales floor doing it or someone who actually knows what they're doing? I think I need a fit done before the ride

Hmm I'm kind of interested in the 100. Am I going to stick out like a sore thumb riding my upright hybrid? I've done 60 and 70k rides on it and commute fairly regularly 30k/day so I think with a bit of training I could rock out a 100. But are people super hardcore and I'd be looking like a moron?

Yeah, you're gonna have some hardcore folks there and you're gonna have some amatures like myself there too. IMO, no one really gives a shit whether you 'stick out' or not on something like this...show up, give it your best and have some fun with it and that's all that should matter.

    ...here's a great example

If you're doing 30k a day 3-5 times a week to work a 100 will be a breeze. Biggest thing I've noticed on my training is needing the elevation gain as my commutes are pretty well flat

You'll have no issue doing the 100k. There will be people there on hybrids so you'll fit right in!

$120 for a bike fit? I too would be interested to hear about the quality of this service if anyone's had any experience.

Nice man, let us know how it goes. The MEC website does say it's a premium fit service so demand nothing less Overall I'm comfortable on mine though I get pain/knots in my right shoulder/neck and also a bit in the low back, esp when nearing the century mark. Sometimes my left fingers also go numb lol. Not sure if that's a muscle endurance/flexibility issue or more due to my set up.
