Yea I didn't verify until the way back, had my screen turned off to conserve power. Emotional roller coaster for a bit there though haha. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Continuing my training tonight. Going for a downtown to nosehill loop and back via 19th street. Going to try for a new speed record down 19th so if I don't post tonight watch for me in the news/obituaries. Last time I ran it my gps messed up and didn't track so hopefully it does this time.
One in the front, and one in the back. Third stop was to pump up both again to nurse it back to the finish line. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
We only had two new tubes among the three of us. He only had a patch kit. So we figured we might as well use the tubes first so we could get going again. Guess he might have done the tube swap a bit too quickly and forgot to check if something was lodged on his tire. So both front and back eventually started to lose pressure again.
What is the cause of the flats? Is it because they're running at such high pressure? I noticed about a dozen people with flats throughout my ride. I haven't had a flat on my commuter ever. i do change my tubes twice a year though
Just lots of shit on the side of the road. I smoked a good sized rock going ~36-37 km/hr as i was drafting (guy in the front signalled it too late) which popped me. I was lucky that i was only 10 k to the next aid station where they had a proper pump to get it back to a high PSI. Just lots of potholes, rocks, glass, nails, tons of shitThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I imagine the race tires are a bit less forgiving on that stuff too. Just found it surprising
definitely, not much give at 115 psi!
Anyone know when the schedule usually goes up. Also I thought I saw that there is a deal if you pay for them up front (there are 3/year right?)
think only two, and they do that deal if you're a runner doing their like 5 race set. Seems the dates are pretty similar every year, around the 3rd weekend in september and the 3rd weekend in may

Awesome! No map yet for the spring but, I will be there! Haven't trained for like more than 2 weeks! Was away and busy. Should get my legs going this week! This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
EDIT: seems like they have triathlon also. I don't think I've seen that before. Now I am curious if I should try that one too! I have not swum for like 5 years though LOL.
Watch the cat for different holiday hats!
Think the spring one is typically headed south from Bar U Ranch for 50 k then turn around.
They had the sprint triathalon last year...contemplating that one as well.. tho the duathalon saves me having to swim haha

It's the run that I am actually unsure of lol. I just don't like running but really, I've only tried running on a treadmill lol that's probably why I don't like it...This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Of course, I am unsure of the swimming part too because I haven't done it for a long time but I do enjoy swimming hehe.

So I did the MEC sprint duathlon last year - super fun event. Slightly biased as I won it.
5km Run, 20km bike, 2.5km run.
Assuming it's the same course as last year in Turner Valley:
- 2.5km of mostly downhill and flat, out and back (so flat / uphill on the way to the transition). 21:25 - took it easy on the run.
- 10km of mostly headwind and slightly uphill with 2 decent climbs, then turn around for tailwind with mostly downhill. 30.9km/hr out, 41.2km/hr back. 309W average for 34:38
- 1.25km of mostly downhill along the same route from first 5km, but turn around at 1.25k marker. 11:07 - first km was super slow as my right calf was super tight off the bike.
The Tri is on the same course, but starts with a swim in the outdoor pool. It's set up in waves to ensure the pool isn't over capacity. The Duathlon is everyone all at once, which last year was only 26 people.
what do you do for footwear? Clipless that you can run with?
There's a costume change at transition.
Swim is the easiest part. Sprint you're only in the water for ~8mins, even for an Ironman it's a relatively small portion of the race ~1hr in the water. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
There is indeed a costume change at transition. I've got a pair of Nike Air Pegasuses (Pegasi? Pegai?) for the run sections. For the bike I used Giro Privateer MTB shoes (because I don't own road shoes) which came in handy considering how long the run from dismount to transition was. Running on road shoes looked awful. I'm sure I would lose more time running in road shoes than I would gain riding in them. Keep in mind that this was on a residential street so bare-foot transition running sounded like a bad idea. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
