maybe i'll put coffee in one of my water bottles for the first stretch
lol I was literally just thinking about putting hot water in my bottles.. hmm. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Think that is actually what I'll do.. mmm warm water and nuun. I've accepted that I'm wearing a bag till at least the first aid station
i'm out too, have fun everyone. important to take it easy off the start for the first 25k or so till you're properly warmed up and used to the pace. it's way better to pass others than be passed. then just start gunning it en route to a PB
If you guys see a blue Kona Jake with bike balls swinging around, say hello
Oh wow, those are MAJESTIC.
haha that's awesome, please someone post a video if they see Derrick's balls
best of luck to you guys riding tomorrow!
You mean if they see D'z Nutz? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Well that was some serious Type 2 fun. Feeling good until about the 70 k station (shoulda stopped) and then the cramps kicked in.. chased me all the way back. Then a tire puncture which pulled me out of a decent pace line.
But, did it under 6 hours so happy! Crazy to see how fast some of those guys are. I was in the 'fast' peloton till Longview and that was pretty fun but no way was I keeping that pace so didn't try to chase them
I was doing well for the first 70km. After that, all the energy was just sapped out of me and the final 30km from the last aid station was brutal. By the time I finished, I legitimately thought I was the last one to get back. That last stretch just didn't seem to want to end. I was hoping to finish the 100km in under 4 hours (moving time), but it ended up taking me 4:25 so I was a little disappointed with that.
I gotta tell you, that pasta and bolognese fucking hit the spot when I got back. The way she kept shoveling it onto the plate, I thought there was no way I could finish all that. I was wrong.
Did you guys find you dressed appropriately for the temperature?

No kidding possibly one of the best meals I've had in my life haha.
Yea I was about the same at ~80km when you turn to go up the Longview hill I thought I was going to have to pull over. Wasn't super fatigued but every second pedal was like getting a Charley horse.
Think I nailed my layering. Made a last minute (literally got back to the start line with 20 seconds to go) change and ditched the deviator hoody and backpack. Was warm when drafting and cool when up front. Probably could have stopped and pulled the lower tights off as it was pretty damn warm going up those last 3 hills. Almost crashed on the last hill as I stood up to pedal and both legs cramped to the point I had to sit on my top tube for a couple min.
Biggest thing is that I didn't follow my food/hydration plan. Was cold enough I wasn't drinking much on the way up...make a plan and stick with it I gues
Was going to thank you actually haha. I wrote down your recommendations and followed them pretty closely, worked really wellThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I need a watch for biking with an alarm to force me to eat and drink. Definitely paid for it.
That was a good fun. I think I screwed up at breakfast though and didn't eat enough as I felt like I was lagging and playing catchup the whole ride. Man.. those guys at the front had solid pace. Pasta was decent at the end to which was nice, usually you get 'beef in a bun' or something.
On the way back I was surprised at how many hills there were from Longview north, I guess in the morning with all the people and the focus I wasn't really paying attention. Def sign up next year for an early one, get my nutrition and hydration plan in check. I did the same where I found my bottles were still pretty full around the 30km+ mark because it was chilly.
Good to meet you and your sack Derrick..
Yeah, I had a look and thought "yeeech, whatever I'm so hungry I don't care right now" and it ended up being really good haha! I know the email said there was going to be hot food waiting for us, but I was expecting like a ham and cheese sandwich with some soggy tomato and lettuce and a coffeeThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. I think that may have contributed in part to my final 30km crash. I breezed from the 50km aid station to the 70km aid station almost effortlessly and relatively quickly, I figured the final 30km wasn't going to be too bad since I remembered it as being mostly downhill, so I didn't bother to eat anything or drink very much. Just rest for a few minutes and off to the races again. I completely over estimated how easy those three hills were at the start of the ride. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Costco's got Garmin Fenix 3 HR's for $450. GPS city also has a bunch of refurbed options for cheaper too. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Around 60-70km is when I hit a massive wall if I haven't eaten or drank enough. It really is a forced effort!
Great job on finishing guys! Glad to hear the weather was cooperative!

Yeah, I don't think we could have asked for better weather. Did you do your ride in Edmonton? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
