Default PADI open water course in Thailand

Is $550ish cad or so a good deal for 3-day course in Thailand?

I don't know if that is super amazing. I think I paid under $700 for SSI Open Water + Advance at Big Blue. I think it was about 5 days or so but such an awesome experience.

I spent 10 days diving in Koh Tao for about $1k. Got my PADI open water and advanced open water, as well as nitrox certifications. Did some ship wreck dives, night dives, etc. It was a great time.

$550 for the 3 day course seems more expensive than when I went, but that could just be where it's headed. Call around to other places. Read the Google reviews.
I can eat more hot wings than you.

I paid about $500 CAD in Grenada for the full certification through the Sandals resort. You don't need 3 days though, 2 days (9-5 type thing) tops, it's very easy and so is the written test.

You can take the full certification (class, pool, open water)in Calgary for $575
Or just do the class and pool for $350 and complete your open water certification dives during your vacation if you don't want to burn 2 days in a classroom in Thailand

    This!

Do your open water part where it's warm. It's a huge weight of stress gone immediately. Dropping into lake Minewanka at 3 degrees eats ass.

It's good and bad. I got certified in a dry suit. It was pretty warm in my suit though.... from my own urine.

I also recommend this. Did this my class and pool in Calgary, did my open water in Hawaii.

    A) Didn't blow a few days of Hawaiian vacation in a classroom/pool.
    B) Maybe this is nothing, but I also felt that the people in Calgary didn't care about whether I kept diving at their resort - they wanted to make sure I didn't drown. So I felt like the training was more legit, it wasn't just some tourist dive company that had an interest in getting me to do more diving with them.

Thailand in Oct. Australia in Dec.

Contacted 3 places in Patong. Range from $550-$600 for 3 days openwater. Includes 6 dives and the pre-req online learning

Cheaper than at Port Douglas in Australia where I got quoted $850 just for the 3 days and additional ~$200 for the pre-req online learning.

Obviously I will do it in Phuket then do a 1-day group dive when in Australia.
