Default Laptop Won't Boot; "Media Fail" Issue

    Hey guys,
Maybe some gurus can help me out as I'm stumped.

My Toshiba laptop won't boot up and shows the following sequence of errors:

    Name: 20170814_221534.jpg
Views: 120
Size: 41.4 KB
    Name: 20170814_221547.jpg
Views: 116
Size: 41.8 KB

I googled the case and tried going into bios to see if it recognized the drive, and it looks like it does.

Size: 68.1 KB

So more googling suggests trying to boot with Secure Boot disabled and Boot Mode in CSM Mode. I tried that and now the screen shows this:

    Name: 20170814_221423.jpg
Views: 113
Size: 55.6 KB

The computer originally came with Windows 8, but has since upgraded to Windows 10 when this occurred. I tried loading an ISO of 8.1 and 10 on a flash drive (NTFS format) but it doesn't do anything even though BIOS sees the flash drive. Does it need to be on a DVD or something? Am I missing a step? Not sure what else to try.

    Thanks.

Yea that looks like a corrputed boot loader. You will have to make a USB repair disk (or DVD) using W10 image, and run the diagnostic programs to rectify the issue.

Thanks. I ended up having a bunch of issues but figured out where I went wrong.

    Followed this and it worked!

Make sure you have a backup of your personal files, as the error is most often indicative of a failing hard drive.

Thanks, I will do doing that since I'm still experiencing some issues after following the procedure in the link of my last post.

Basically, I can only boot using my flash drive, and without it, it comes up with the same error as my first post. Because of this, the computer is slow as fuck but everything does boot up "normally" with the USB plugged in.

Not sure what to do about that now, but at least I can boot up lol.

Run an extensive hard drive test:

If you have to back up your data, do that first, as the diagnostics make the hard drive work very hard, and that could be enough to cause the hard drive to fail completely.

Your drive is done. Plan for a replacement ASAP. Once symptoms start to manifest like this is usually the problems are already serious.

K thanks guys, I'll save all my personal stuff tonight and then do that HD test.
Worst case I'll install a clean copy for the time being until I get a replacement.

I wouldn't bother. You'd just have to do it twice.

Just back up your stuff, and buy a new drive from Memory Express.
