Do people really buy new bikes just for one event and sell after? Seems ridiculously wasteful.
Even more common for triathlon. The bucket-list athletes.

    I think two scenarios:

They did this because it was a goal and during the process they realized they wanted a motorbike and not a bicycle.

A company sponsored a bike for them.

Hmm I could be interested! I'm about 5'8". I fit on a medium Giant, and 54s seem to fit me well.

I ended up looking at a few Giants as you all recommended, and I found a 2017 Contend SL 1 Disc that seemed to check all the boxes. (https://www.giant-bicycles.com/ca/contend-sl-1)

Last one in stock and on sale for $1,500. Seems like a great bargain compared to other options in that price range. Took it for a spin, it felt good, and it's currently on hold for me. The gf was also looking for a bike, and they also had 1 of the Liv Avail SL 1 Discs left in stock (going back to see how it fits her).

I could be interested in what you have. Would you mind posting them, or pm'ing me?

Great bike to get into the sport. I think you would enjoy it. Plus down the road if you upgrade, a great bike to keep as a commuter / all rounder.
Relaxed geometry that will put you a little more upright, so it should be comfortable and versatile. Shimano 105, and has the 11-32 cassette so should make climbing easy for you. Good value IMO.

I've got a 2013 S Giant TCX 0, but actually fits like a medium as it's a 53.5cm, full Ultegra. Looking to get $1100 for it. I've also got a 51cm Cervelo R3 with all 105 components. I like being on the smaller end of frames, so I like the smaller bikes and I'm 5'8 too. Not really sure how much I want for this one. It's been my trainer bike so it's barely been outside, $1500 I guess.

After scoring these 20% off Banana Republic Gift Cards, combined with a 50% off sale and ebates cashback, I should start thinking about putting more 8's on my license plate.
You make me so hot when you talk like that.

I tried to buy your TCX this last weekend before getting a 49.5 JTS. My main worry was that it would be too big for me at 53.5.

Haha yeah it's definitely on the large side for a small. Feels bigger than my old medium TCR, which is strange because they're both Giants.
