    Default Tangerine Bank

    Anyone bank with Tangerine?

Im looking to switch the bulk of my banking (well everything really) to Tangerine and switch to their cashback credit card.

    Any headaches/ problems..?
Are there any everyday banking stuff that you have to do differently now that you did not expect?

I've only had to deal with Tangerine EMT as a receiver once and I ultimately turned down a sale because of it. They wanted a bunch of banking info and like 2 or 3 business days to process. With all major banks, it can transfer near instantly with zero banking info required, just a security answer.

My only experience, n = 1, but for that reason alone I would never use them for day-to-day banking.

I've been using them consistently for a few years. Let me know if you want my referral code for signup bonus

I've had no issues with it. It is a bit annoying when you set up to pay bills a few days later. Let me explain.
I have with them the chequings acct, high interest savings acct, and the credit card. Chequing is usually 0 balance while a big chunk is in high interest savings. If today I wanna set up to pay $1000 to my TD credit card for Sept 5th, the money must come from the chequings acct. The transactions don't prioritize themselves for the same day, so I need to set up a transfer of $1000 from savings to chequings for the 4th.

The credit card is decent. 2% on your selected categories. Can change the categories every month. The out-of-category cashback is 0.5% only now though, they cut it back so it's a bit skimpy.

Other than that, just moving cash to a real bank I can write certified cheques from takes 3-4 business days is a minor annoyance, but I've never needed anything instantly.

Been with them for over a year. No regrets.

The only issue I have encountered, if you need a Bank draft, you need to order it online and they will courier it to you in 24-48 hours. Not really an issue but definitely not as easy as just walking into a bank and walking out with a draft.

Not sure what msommers is referring too, the e-transfer works the same as any other major bank.

I also use their credit card which is great for rewards.

What makes Tangerine attractive? PC Financial (soon to be Simplii) is free banking and zero hassle including full access to CIBC machines.

They used to be good back when it was ING... these days I don't see any advantage at all to using them over a standard bank

As far as credit card go, I have a Gold TD which has the annual fee waived as part of my account (my account fees are waived with minimum balance as well), it returns 1% cash on every purchase with no limit.
Im with TD. But I am a peasant. I don't like keeping the minimum in my account and they are changing their cash back card to some cashback points bollocks. Basically they are not going to give cash, but instead give me things to which they dictate I might like. Fuck that. I don't earn enough or spend enough that makes any other card worthwhile.
Im thinking about moving my chequing and credit card to Tangerine. So mortgage and bills go out of that.
Im considering the MC card at Costco, but I like seeing my credit card status on my phone and just paying it off with the peanuts in my chequing account. Hence using Tangerine.
I'l keep my emergency fund in my savings account at TD. So if I need access to a draft or anything I can still run to TD.

PC im not too sure about as they are changing. Though I'l have a look on the weekend.

Glad to hear they've changed their system, it was very unusual!

Use them for my mortgage and a small savings account.
Rate was 2.59% fixed 5 years so we locked in early this time.
I also wondered about using them as a day to day account.

Transfers between Tangerine accounts are instant for me. External are overnight. I pay my VISA 3 days in advance (it may take longer than other bills) otherwise every other bill is day of.

I've never used my debit card but you get free access to "Scotiabank® ABM Network including those at 7-Eleven... etc".

I find Tangerine is pretty painless to deal with compared to the rest of the banks I have accounts with.

Oh snap... they discontinued the Gold Elite:

So how does this work if you are still an existing customer... do they renew it when it expires or force you onto another card?

They grandfather you as far as we know. Wife has one and it is still active and asked that very thing last time we were in there.
    Cos...

Tip I've heard some guy doing:
Order a Tangerine Card for himself, add wife.
Order a Tangerine Card for wife, add self.

Write categories on the back of each card, profit with 6x 2% categories.

I used to work for TD a while back. With the Aeroplan card they just forced you over from CIBC. Or you could just signup and get a shit load of points. The problem was not the points, but booking flights. It pissed a lot of people off. Some left or just switched their cards. I don't blame them, the whole booking thing is a joke.

With this cash back, they will be forcing you over I think to the new 'Shitty let me dictate to you peasant' card in October. For the size of the bank, I don't get why they have such shitty cards and shitty mutual fund products. It really is bad. The good investment stuff they hide and Im like what is the point of that?

You are probably better off going with EQ bank plus a MBNA world elite CC.
