    Default Removing carbon from valves

I've got a head disassembled, the bare head is out for hot tank and surface. The machine shop refused to clean the valves.

I tried a drill and green scrub pad with WD40 - didn't even touch it
Tried soaking for 24hrs in heavy duty parts cleaner - hardly did anything

Does anyone have any non abrasive solutions or any special fine brass bench wheels that could help me clean these things up?

The drill just isn't cutting it.

If you have the heads off, the valves are out get a container and this product GM Fluid 88861803 Upper Engine and Fuel Injector Cleaner soak the valves in a container
over night to soften up the carbon and should come off.

Is it "Mode lexis" or "Model exis?"

Glass bead will make them look like new in no time at all.

I've also heard soda blasting works well, but who in calgary has this equipment and would let me dick around for an hour or so?

Oven cleaner works well, then varsol, then brake cleaner.

Interesting. I had always assumed it was "Mod Elexis".

Consolidated compressor has a bead blaster. Not sure if they can change the medium or not though, give them a call.

I wonder if electrical contact cleaner would have any effect as it is made for cleaning carbon.

Not sure that it would work.
I find that stuff evaporates too quickly and you can't wipe quick enough. Tried it in a pinch when I ran out of brake cleaner once and noticed it sucked due to how quickly it flashes off.

When we cleaned the valves on the 135i, we used the GM upper engine cleaner and a stiff brush to scrub all that junk off of there. It was really unpleasant.
