I think that's part & parcel of buying a house with no sidewalk out front. If the homeowner is that annoyed, they can build a fence.

actually in most cases, you cant... there are rules/laws about front fences, especially in newer communities with strict architectural controls. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

If that were my house I could not care less if some kids walked across the edge of my lawn instead of on the street Who cares. Better that than having them run across the street all the time. The only thing that would annoy me is if irresponsible dog owners did the same, or if someone was actually destroying my lawn.
Did you dream up this scenario just lying in bed? Or are you asking for a 'friend' haha?
Then wall the fuckers out with ornate bushes. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
That's what you get for buying in a place with no sidwalks.
Just landscape with some sort of obstacle course like thorny rose bushes.
Bushes are probably banned in those communities as well. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Will fuck off, again.
Yes I'm sure you were the perfect child, be reasonable, kids will be kids, it's easy to forget your short comings as a child and believe you were a superior child to others. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Also as I mentioned the houses in the picture likely don't even own that land as its most likely part of the road setback so it's a moot point.
Exactly. I am quite pleased our new build is on the curb side and not the sidewalk side. Rolled my ankle a couple of times though on the steep curb. Joke is on me.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
If kids are simply walking, I really don't see the big deal. Do you never walk on your lawn to water, etc? It's pretty resilient stuff and isn't going to just die. If there was a LOT of traffic then maybe, but as others have pointed out I am not so sure you own the edge anyway.
Legit question: Is this really a problem? I mean, don't you have more pressing things to be concerned about?
When I lived in Coventry the houses across the street didn't have sidewalks and it was pretty common for kids to use the entire lawn (not just the edge) as a walkway to get between a stretch of 4 or 5 houses. I did think it was odd that they just treated the whole area as communal property, but at least they were playing outside and weren't in the roadway (mostly).
Bottom line, on the list of weird things I witnessed kids do in my time there, walking on the edge of the lawn probably wouldn't crack the top ten.
Some people take a lot of pride in their lawns and like a pristine cut without foot prints etc. My dad was one of those. It isn't because he didn't like kids. He just took a huge amount of pride in perfect grass. We were not even allowed to walk on the front lawn.
Personally I would not want my own kids walking on anyones property without permission...
^^
lol can u fence it then? haha it look a bit off but protect the grass , right?
I don't really care what I was or wasn't as a child. But it certainly shapes us as adults. Respect for others property (regardless of government ownership) is as important as respect for people. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Now the flipside of this is that if the owners don't care, go hard. I never said the kids can't under any circumstances, the problem is the assumption that they can do something. Backing it up with "well, technically they don't own that land" means complete squat when you have a dirt path worn through your front lawn. And I'm not exaggerating, that happens quite quickly if traffic is constant.
You can't fence right to the street, and can't build any kind of permanent structure out there either. Technically not even supposed to plant bushes, although you'd probably get away with it. The process of getting approval to build something on the city owned land adjacent to your lot is pretty long. Took me about a year to get approval for some brick planters I put in without permission . . .

I take pride in my lawn, but unless the kids are intentionally wrecking my lawn....shit happens. Imagine how much shit happens to your lawn when you aren't around. Man....what a thread.
Agreed, don't waste MY drinking water on your silly grass (joking of course). This thread cracks me up. Some people think they can have their own personal island in a city of 1.2 million. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

If only those lawns could be turned into concrete driveways.
