Default HR people chim in please

I recently swapped desks duties with someone who ended up just leaving the company right away and now my old group is interviewing for my old desk.

I have applied to a job internally in the meantime and I notified my old manager that I had done so and to ask if she knows the hiring manager in order to put a good reference. I know the 3 people who interviewed with my old manager and all 3 had told me that my old manager let them know during the interview that I have applied internally for a job.

I'm wondering if this is a privacy or HR issue as what I feel that me telling my manager that I applied should be assumed to be in confidence. Would like to hear peoples thoughts on this...

    thanks

its not uncommon for them to tell people that there is an internal candidate... if they mentioned you specifically that might be a privacy issue.

Let me get this straight first.

You changed position and your old manager is looking to fill your old position and have interviewed 3 people?
Then your old manager informed them that the reason they are hiring is because you moved/applied to a different position?

Did the manager mentioned you specifically, IE your name or just mentioned that the reason the position is available is because someone moved to a different position?

the way i read it is that he reluctantly or after the fact had remorse from changing positions with someone, and then that person left and he is re-applying for his old job and the boss is telling the other perspective candidates that he has also applied.

that's another way to see it and how I first saw it too, confusing since he said he's applying for "a job" instead of saying 'his old job"

Let me clarify. I swapped "desk duties" with someone from the same group. That person I swapped who was taking over my old role decided to leave the company. So they are filling my old role because the new person i swapped with left.

They mentioned me directly in the interviews.

The way I read this is as follows

Old Manager of OP told candidates that OP used to hold this position that they are interviewing for

Some of the original story is irrelevant

I'm more confused as to what OP thinks the consequence of this would be? What's the harm?

If he knew the candidates well enough that they spoke about the manager mentioning him...then maybe that's why the manager mentioned him.

We're either missing something, or someone is super sensitive.

Long story short I don't think when interviewing people for my old job to tell job candidates about what job I'm applying for internally. It's not the candidates business what I'm doing.

Thus makes no sense to me either.

OK maybe it's not their business... but why make a big deal of it? How does this actually affect you (aside from bothering you, which it clearly does)?

It's like if someone asked your ex on a date, and your ex was like "yeah, also just so you know he's recently asked out this other new girl". The information is superfluous, and likely none of the candidates care or could even do anything with it.

Yeah, unless i am missing something, who the hell cares.

Also it's not uncommon for candidates to ask and managers to disclose why a position is vacant. Doesn't sound weird to me.
