Figured I'd bump this threa instead of creating a new one - yesterday, Druh was in the minority on the council vote that approved spending more monies of an Olympic bid. Now there's a many beyond member who are staunchly anti-Druh - myself, I'm indifferent in my opinion of her as I've seen her do good things for our community when she was our councillor but she's also supported or championed things that I did not agree with.
On the Olympics, I just do not believe hosting any future Olympic Games makes good financial sense. Yeah, we'll get some fabulous new or updated facilities out of another games and will keep the Flames here but at what cost. On the flip side, the less Calgary has in world class facilities (or near to such) makes Calgary more of a back water and a less of a memorable place.
Calgary is not a Toronto or Montreal or Vancouver and never will be, we are a second tier city in Canada and always will be and spending a gazillion dollars to host the 2026 Olympics will most likely result in Calgary municipal tax payers left holding the bag for many years afterwards.
Druh, I think she did good this time.
