I'm 49 and up until about 5 years ago, I consumed copious amounts of Vodka, fast food, and smoked a pack of cigarettes a day. I'm honestly surprised that I'm not dead from lung cancer or liver failure.

Side note: In before a typical response of, "what's your emotional problem that you feel a need to escape with drugs and alcohol". Granted, many that try to escape reality due so out of emotional and physical child abuse, but like so many OTHERS, that's not me. I don't have any emotional problems that caused me to want to step away from society. I step away from society, as society keeps bowing down to emotion and ignorance instead of critical thought.

So anyway, a few months back, I went for a full physical and blood test to asses the damage, and the nurse was appalled that I had never done such a thing. Given the abuse I've done to my body over a prolonged period, I was fully expecting, "Your organs are starting to liquefying due to your abuse of them", but no, the tests showed all is well.

Thing is, your genetic disposition, which despite what you've been told, is changeable.

Is your old friend a smoker or was a long time smoker? It's been my experience that smokers age much more quickly than non-smokers.
Drugs, alcohol, smoking, Teen dad, lots of family issues, jail, etc.... Needless to say, we went on two very different paths after high school and I don't think he even finished.

I'm turning 41 this year and I honestly feel it. Metabolism has slowed down and my tits are growing the wrong way. Not as big as Never's, but I'm sure he's on roids hahaha.

Turning 28 at the end of October.

Feel old AF but I wouldn't call it middle age by any stretch yet. Wouldn't say you're middle age until 40.

Physically I feel great, I'm working out again and I'm in the best shape I've ever been in (which isn't saying much as I'm still skinny but my metabolism is finally slowing down so it feels great to gain weight), only real difference I noticed is that the hangovers after drinking consecutive days are fucking awful. If I drink two days in a row, I'm out of commission for 24-48 hours. If I drink 3-5 days in a row on vacation I get crazy withdrawal feelings with shakes and anxiety and just want to die once I stop. I can still drink on a week night and not die at work the next day though so at least I still have that (makes partial Flames season tickets worth it).

Mentally though I am fucking killing myself over how unhappy I am with where I am at life. You know, goals that I'm behind on or are starting to seem out of reach and regrets from choices in my youth just drain on me. Really hoping that if I can't start hitting some of those soon I at least get to that "IDGAF" point.

Oh I know. Its just makes 28 feel old. If I was more where I wanted to be at this point I think I'd still feel youthful

This thread's funny, remember how young we were in the ole days at the turn of the millennium when some of us first got together with this car forum shit.

I'll be 35 in the spring. I dont know how I feel. I know I'm in better physical shape than I was back in the day, 280 down to 200, and I know my physical strengths and limitations as they get tested a lot. I could be a lot healthier, but I think I'm above average for my age.

Mentally however, I feel old. I feel like I've seen enough horror, death and depression for 100 lifetimes.

Looking at my family history, on my dads side, my great grandfather lived to 101, grand parents were like 80 when they passed on. My mom and dad look pretty good for 60 and 65 and seem to be healthy and look younger than their age, nothing major besides mom kicking stage 4 cancer against all odds. Moms side is all over the place.

So I dont know what middle aged to me really means. I would say I'm getting there. I cant party like I used to, pretty good, but not like when I was 25 and living overseas. I know the last time I went out for St Patricks day I felt REALLY old AF, those guys that would just chill in a booth while the party goes on, , yeah thats me lol. Definitely dont have much in common with the 18-25 crowd anymore. I think the last time I went out proper "I'm getting good and messed up" clubbin night was the Beyond Admin party of 2009, jesus that was a gongshow hahaha. Been out since then but not to the IDGAF level like that night. I'm pretty ornery on some subjects, and I just dont care about a lot of things like I used to. I have my general routine and my hobbies, not like an old person that sits at Tims or McDonalds every morning and talks about politics and new advancements in hip replacements but A general routine. I plan to retire around 52, I figure that will be my true middle age as to me "That half" of my life will be over with and my retirement plans pan out (centroamerica) however if I were to look at statistics, 40 will likely be my halflife. I'll die of Cancer and Dementia, as thats rampant in my family, and I've accepted it, get to meet new people every day.

    I don't feel old until:

    - I go to the university and everyone is 18-23
    - Being hungover actually feels like I should be in the hospital
    - I notice the persistent, small roll of fat on my lower abs that never goes away regardless of what I do
    - I go for a run and the first 2kms feels like I've already ran a marathon
    - I look at my hobbies

I'll assume I'm old when I can't date chicks in their 20'S anymore.

Im 38 and I feel beyond middle aged.
Last year I felt super fit and very young. That was until I got very sick and I never recovered.
I move like a old man now, because of this I have gained twenty pounds, gone up two sized and for the first time in my life, my belly shows and jiggles to a different momentum to the rest of my body when walking.

I don't think I am old, or middle aged. But with the sickness and the way my body has rapidly deteriorated...I really feel like it.
