My VOIP adapter has moved with us twice now and I've had the same number for over a decade. Only costs $5/month for unlimited North American long distance to most major cities, so it is worth keeping it for us.

I still have one as I like having a number that I never have to answer and hate checking voice mail on my cellphone.
Got rid of ours 6 years ago. So glad we did, House is much quieter

Telus is not required to install a UPS anymore. This is due to the fact that most people who have a landline have a powered base that wont allow the phone to work during a power outage anymore.
ALSO Telus now provides a free Landline if you are 60+ with Internet or something
Depends if you are aerial or not . If you had copper to your home prior to getting Fibre, you probably are still connected to Line Equipment at the Office, or UMC.
