    Default Fighting Old Ticket

    Hey,

Posting a question for a friend

    - Went to the registry and found out I have an outstanding ticket (red light camera) which is now late. Moved within the year and the ticket was mailed to my old address.

    1) Can I still get a reduction on the amount?
    2) Do I need to bring the actual ticket?

Tell your "friend" if he missed the court date, he's sol. Not the court's fault he moved and didn't have his address changed/forwarded.

You can get it reversed and back into the courts. I have no idea how, but a traffic lawyer did that for me before.

Could be wrong but your friend missed the specified court date on the ticket. Which means he's SOL and convicted in absence

Tell "your friend" (Bill Smith) That not changing your address is no excuse for not paying your loan, I mean your ticket...

You can file a motion to set aside the conviction in absence. Typically that needs to be done within the 30 day limit after being convicted as well though. So depending on the time might be too late. Go to the courthouse and speak to the traffic office. Even if within time, the set aside is discretionary on the presiding member and they will only do it if the reasoning is good enough.

When this happens to me, they refuse to renew my license/registration till ticket is paid. Not sure if any way around that?

It's a zero demerit ticket, just pay it.

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

Nope. Got to pay your fines before you can renew your license or registration.
