Bortus, his egg, and the interaction with his partner is freakin hilarious.

The cast is perfect except for the doctor. It was awkward in DS9, and even more so now. WTF is up with that?

Oh ya, Alara is beautiful. Like Dax beautiful.

That "character" should've had a different name from the start. What we got bore no resemblance at all to the Harry Mudd of original series fame. He was not particularly intelligent and definitely not a murderous thug.

    My main complaints with STD:
    - Klingons are different in every respect. Why not have just made them a different race completely?
    - Sarek raising a human. Why not have Michael's parents be a different high ranking Vulcan couple rather than Sarek and Amanda
    - rather than Mudd, could've been a new/different privateer/pirate

With those three subtle changes they could've still told the stories they want to tell while avoiding the inconsistencies and conflicts. To enjoy STD to its fullest you almost have to pretend all prior Star Trek never existed.
Mudd was a human trafficker and was going to leave the crew of a starship on a planet. If anything they made him too nice on Discovery.

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.

They have been saying Discovery is either already in a mirror universe or something like that. So this sounds plausible. Will see how 2nd half of the season turn out. At least they promise no more Klingons wars for 2nd half, so it will be interesting seeing how that goes.

But I still like Orville better as a Trek show and last episode of that short season is on Dec 7th. Then we may have to wait a year for season 2.

    I just started watching it.
I almost pulled the plug on the first episode. I though it was just gona be a big feminist show set in space.

The first few episodes had really bad editing. Like really bad. They kept on jumping camera angles so the viewer just gets confused. They keep doing the pity party stories that give background info to their character. Nobody fucking cares. Get on with the fucking show and blow some shit up.

There is a lot more action thank fucking god. I found TNG and Voyager had no real stories at times. It was all about encountering some weird shit in space then...crazy what the fuck music playing in the backgrond. Then right at the end...'If I just amend the frequency on my lazer thingy I might be able to fix it'. Yay we saved the crew and the ship.. then thats how most of the shows ended.

With Discovery...my only real complaint is none of the actors have a angle on their character. I mean they all seem to be followers voicing their opinion. The original star trek had characters that had a angle.... Take the original doctor, he did not hold back on his opinions. They were rather funny with a twist and he liked whisky. He referred to the Captain by his first name too which was interesting.

Discovery's engineer comes across the type of guy that has pent up anger. So he throws himself into his work because his wife an't giving him enough sex and he can't leave her because she will take everything and ruin him.
Burnham needs to stop giving crying Disney eyes when the whole thing about her actions killing her captain is always brought up.
The captain needs to bang more alien chicks.
The first officer is a female transexual in disguise.
The new security officer. I just wish he had a British accent and spoke in a military manner like Michale Cane in the movie Zulu. Even better if he wore a Turban and had a Kirpan (traditional knife) on his side that he would pull out now and again.

    Spoiler:
The only great character they had was Michelle Yeoh and they killed the poor woman.

I'l stick with it and see where this goes...

I gave up initially, but once mid season hit I started to like it. Hopefully you find the same with your experience.

    I loved the "groundhog-esq style episode" (#7?)
...but I'm a sucker for those.

They Star Trek'd so hard on the last few episodes. SO HARD.

The series did a good job avoiding technobabble until episode 4 of season 2.

Really serious episode tonight. It’s surprisingly intense

I've been watching S3 and just WOW!!!!!!!! One of the few shows that have kept me watching for sure with the much improved story line and just how it's evolved from S1 and S2. S1 was good, S2 was better and S3 has just been absolutely fantastic with the new story line and all that's occurred that's been able to really tie in the first 2 seasons. Hoping that the new upcoming series with a focus on Captain Pike and the potential Section 31 series will be as good but with a stronger start than Discovery.

Love the show. It’s so far into the future now that discovery actually fits hahah.
