    Default Farkas on council

Well Jeromy Farkas is wasting no time in getting noticed in our municipal politiccal scene - tghe latest is his motion regarding the SW BRT, Metro news article.

So is the SW BRT required or not, will it do what they think it will? I don't live in the SW so it will not impact me but some beyond members must live in the affected areas and have an opinion o the SW BRT..

As far as Farkas, it appears he'll be entertaining to say the least.
    Will fuck off, again.

Pros: Remove busses from 14th St. SW (assuming small # of routes are modified) which will help traffic.

Cons: Ballers in baller communities have increased traffic from people parking in their communities and hopping on BRT. Might even have to resort to parking permits haha.

He's a member of the beyond strava club. Don't know if he's actually on here often or not at all.

Kelvin Grove and Chinook Park are already permitted parking because of proximity to the hospital and a few schools. Not sure about Eagle Ridge. Permitting and zero tolerance, daily enforcement (which is probably realistic now that they have switched to online registration and park plus camera enforcement) would probably go a long way to satisfying those concerns.

    Very interesting.

    Said no to pension.

    Said yes to secondary suites.

Said no to BRT, which exactly what everyone there is saying no to.

Funny that the same people keep giving BC shit for not building pipeline is doing the exact same thing when a project for public good is going thru their hood.

End of the day, I don't give a shit given most of that quadrant is the reserve any way and the BRT to Mount Royal is the key. It's people south of 22x and west of Macleod may need another option.

    What I find interesting:

$100+ barrel of oil and still high O&G wages - $40mil cost

Economy doing awful, wages and costs slashed - $66mil

Damn it feels good to be a construction gangster!

When I heard that Councillor Farkas would propose a vote everytime council went "in Camera" I almost couldn't believe it. City Council has never appeared to have any checks and balances in place, and this one certainly gets my approval.

Why do they call it "in camera"? They don't use those recordings for anything do they?

Yes the council meetings do get recorded for archival or transcript purposes. They also allow City employees to watch internally while the public can not.

It's latin for 'in private' or 'in chambers'.

I did d it quite surprising that city employees would have access to 'in camera' sessions as the norm for these sessions is what happens in those sessions does not leave that session. They are basically a closed door meeting where anything discussed is known to only the people involved and goes no further than that.

Well those City employees aren't just regulars. There are a lot of high level staff working in City Hall that may not make it to the chambers.

What a lot of people don't know or understand is there is actually 3 buildings there for use Old City Hall, Administration Building (currently housing the Mayors office and staff) and Municipal Building.

That's his schtick. Make noise. It's all part of his Manning Centre training and goal to be a career politician.

City has a pdf file where they show their projections for traffic on 14th st. Truck and car traffic is projected to stay the same. Transit ridership is projected to increase by 5,000 per day or 4.8% to 9.8% of total occupancy on 14th. The bottlenecks are the 2 lanes from 14th onto Glenmore going North, and likewise from Crowchild onto Glenmore going South.

Diane is playing both side of the fence. He probably won't get it reopen anyway but you would think at least Diane will show up.

It's too bad there wasn't a BRT to get her there quicker.
