Default Amazon Echo & Prime Music Now Available

Just saw on the amazon main page that prime music and the three normal echos are now available in Canada. Great news. Also Alexa in turn is now available here.
Echo Dot currently $50 initially then $70
    Echo $100 then $130
Echo Plus $170 then $199 and it is the same price if you want a hue bulb included or not (Looks like normal cheap Hue on/off only bulb)

Dammit... I literally just paid my annual $80 yesterday. Anyone know if you can get it refunded?

Might as well order the echo 2 for $100 off telus and save my $80 for a net cost of only $20.

I've had an Echo for over a year, was just about to switch to Google as the lack of Canadian support was pissing me off. Nice that they FINALLY stopped blocking Canada.

I like my google home better. Doesn't do as much, but does everything I need, is easier to use and works better for me overall.

Looks like the ecobee 4 is now available as well in Canada.

I'm probably going to buy at least one, even though I own 2 Google Homes. The inclusion of Prime Music is a big bonus and Prime Video is getting better.
108 Amazon orders in 2017, so voice ordering can be dangerous for me.

Prime music isn't the same as their amazon music unlimited (Costs extra on top of prime) so that is the only thing to keep in mind.

Google Home is better IMO. The speakers themselves are better too. Also, Amazon is very much USA first (just look how long it took the Echo to come to Canada), where as Google does a much better job of servicing both countries. Also, if you're an Android user, it's much better to be in Google's device ecosystem than Amazon's IMO.

What do you guys actually use google home and Alexa for? Serious question.

Aside from parlour tricks to impress guests I really don’t see the value or use.

Play music, control my lights, control my christmas lights, control my thermostat, control my nest system, send video to my tvs, ask questions, get morning update on weather/traffic, create reminders, call actual phones, play white noise/relaxing noise when I sleep etc.
You are sounding like a real curmudgeon killramos.

My favorite use so far is annoying my wife with Youtube videos (PPAP, Crazy Frog, etc) on our bedroom TV chromecast from downstairs when she's sleeping in.
Aside from that, music for my 2 year old, phone calls, temperature/forecast, turning on my Espresso machine, and metric conversions seem to top the list.

Google just added this one: http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/googl...adcast-support

Say "Hey Google, broadcast.... come down for dinner" to call the family down to dinner from upstairs. I can yell at the kids from anywhere in the house now!

My Home is mostly useful for me with a SmartThings hub. I think the Echo Plus would be better since it has a built in Zigbee hub, but reports are the App isn't mature yet.

At this time, you will get the most functionality out of either of them with the addition of other hubs such as HomeKit, SmartThings, Hue Bridge, Harmony Hub,Wink etc.

Adding items to the grocery shopping list is a big one. Controlling lights /TV, open close blinds, look up stuff we're too lazy to open the laptop to search, like weather, temperature, sports scores etc.
Mrs. Penguin likes to come home and say "Alexa, turn on CNN"
At bedtime, "Alexa, good night" tv goes off, lights go off, binds close if still open.
And effective today, play song/artist on Living room Sonos.

So I pretty much pay zero attention to tech anything other than having a phone but, I'm building a new house in the spring so when you guys talk about lighting control, etc. How is this all working? Where's the idiot guide so I can start looking into it all?
