just got my echo plus yesterday (ordered from Telus). didn't come with any prime 1 year codes but i think they will mail that separately
i hooked up the free philips hue light that came with it, but having some issues getting it to work with my wife's account. can you connect a hue to two alexa accounts? we are setup as a household.
I may be even more of a luddite than killramos. I hate multi function devices. I wish I had a wall switch to control my Philips hue bulbs, and most of the tablets in my home run on airplane mode.

tl;dr
No YouTube on Amazon devices in retaliation; deadline for truce is Jan 1.
Next they're probably gonna tell you no more Nest support.
Yeah all the more reason to have both. I found one use for Alexa so far that has convinced me to keep both.
Google can't add the same device to multiple rooms, and you can't group rooms. I can't turn off multiple rooms at once!
So now I can group all the main floor lights in Alexa and shut down multiple rooms with one command.
Well alexa and fire devices weren't available in canada forever and they pulled the chromecast off the website years ago already based on the US having the fire tv devices. Always thought that was an odd move. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I am thinking of just using google home inside, and then I can move my echo dot to the garage and either hook a speaker up to it or just use it to control the lights.
just got my prime code from telus. stacked it onto my existing prime membership no problem.
Kind of on topic:
Fire HD 8" tablets on sale today. $69.99 from $99.99
Thanks @jwslam !
Is the usage limited to movies, music and playing games?
Or is it pretty easy to setup office apps on it as well?
It's an Android tablet tied to Amazon app store. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
You can sideload Google Play store but not sure about the how reliable or secured going that route.
decided to pick one up for the hell of it since it's cheap enough. worst case scenario it can be a cheap echo/e-reader.
i like how the official cases are $40 hard to pull the trigger on that considering it's more than half the tablet at $70....ended up going with one that costs $17.
thanks for the tip jwslam
Being able to sideload Google Play is pretty important and it seems pretty easy. Thanks. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Got my Fire HD 8 a couple of days ago. Had a hard time getting Play Store setup initially, but did a factory reset and retried the process from scratch and it went very smoothly.
Overall a pretty decent tablet... not super fast or fancy like an ipad, but for $70 it's great value IMO. Kicking myself for not grabbing a second one at that price.
They go on sale often usually $69 or $79. I wish our $ was a bit better, Amazon US had it on sale 2 for $99.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Looks like the Echo Spot is coming later this month for $169

Obviously the most invasive of echo devices, but it is kind of neat. Have one as an alarm clock. Use it in the kitchen to show your security cams etc.
