I did my change over to ATCO online and it was super easy. I picked their flex rates for both electricity and gas. I see from my ENMAX account today that I no longer have electricity and gas with them, so the actual switch over is completed today as promised by ATCO.

When does the free energy kicks in? Is it the energy you used during the months of January and February?
If so, then maybe wait a few days before turning things up?
Did you have to cancel the previous providers yourself, or do they do it for you?

I switched , try it out for a yr and see how it goes, can reallly go wrong for a year.

The fees for delivery is all rate regulated so they will not vary greatly between providers. Most of the money goes to who. Ever owns the infrastructure. Ie enmax for electricity and ATCO for gas.

    Just FYI for everyone

Welcome to ATCOenergy Chat. An agent will be with you shortly.
Conversations may be monitored for quality.

Cos: Do you guys take credit card payment? Currently with Enmax and that is a big positive.

Marvin:Hello Cos, we do take credit card payments

    Cos: Awesome thanks marvin
one last question if I can while I have you
Is the deal possible on the RRO rate or just whatever Atco deems the 'floating' rate that month?
I only ask because it seems like atco electric floating is less than enmax, but Nat Gas floating is a lot more from Atco just based on the crappy online charts. (thanks goldfish168 )

Marvin: The promotion is for both our guaranteed and variable rates only

Cos: gotcha thanks. I imagine the variable rates are set in house by some internal trading team? I.E. they can and would fluctuate to what Enmax, Bullfrog, Direct energy would offer as 'variable' as well?

Marvin: That is correct, they keep it as competitive as possible and as reasonable as they can

Cos: Gotcha, thanks for the time. Happy new year to you.
So what that tells me is they will / can make their variable just high enough that you pay it back, but aren't overly annoyed. Or they'll have low enough rates to make Enmax re-adjust. Either way, good for the consumer.

Lol not sure if you're serious....but for me, they told me I had to give 30 days notice to Enmax, so I will only get half of the deal and I just have a feeling Atco will make up all the savings in all those other B.S. charges that aren't included in the "Free"...

I fully expect to pay about the same for the 12 month term in total, as I did with Enmax in previous years. However I'm OK with that as Jan/Feb are the worst months for me pay cheque wise, so I don't mind deferring the cost to March through December.

I'm also expecting to still have to pay the taxes/carbon levy on that "free" energy.

I'm serious. That's why earlier in the thread I said:

    Atco or Enmax...it doesn't matter.

As time goes on, you'll pay about the same amount regardless of which one you choose.

Just got my first bill from them, it's a little difficult to compare bills, since I don't know what the 2018 delivery charges (etc.) are for all 3 companies, but in comparison to my December bills before I switched.

Gas (vs Direct Energy Regulated Services)
Fixed delivery charge is $5 more
Variable delivery charge is the same per GJ
    Rate Rider is $15 more
Municipal Franchise Fee is $7 more

    Electricity (vs Enmax)
    Distribution Charge is $4 more
    Transmission Charge is $3 more
    Rate Riders is $5 more
Local Access Fee is $3 more

So if this stays about the same, it will cost $500 a year MORE to be with ATCO Energy, but as I said, this is December VS January numbers, so I'm not entirely sure.

Either way, I'm clawing back a whole lot of that. I used 32GJ of "free" gas in January keeping my house at 23*C and triple garage a nice balmy 20*C
