    Default Replacement for Canon 30D

Is this a decent deal for a middle of the road camera? Looking to purchase this for the wife to replace her old cannon 30D

That's a great camera ya. I haven't seen any deals on it previously. There is a better deal on the d7200 if that would fit her needs. Memex had a good deal on the d7500 body but it sold out already

Except any lenses she might have for the 30D won't work on any Nikon bodies....

All she has for her canon is the 18-55 kit lens so it’s no big deal jumping platforms. I think I’m just going to head down there today to play around with the 7200 and 7500. Anything I pick would still be leaps and bounds ahead of her 12yr old canon

Can't go wrong with either of those cameras.

The main differences are that the D7500 is more action focused with a slightly better AF system, 8 FPS, slightly better high ISO performance, a tilting LCD, the metering system from the D5, and a deep buffer. They did reduce it to one SD card slot though.

The D7200 has 3 more MP (not noticeable) and dual card slots, but is otherwise inferior to the D7500. Either will be an enormous upgrade from a 30D in every single way.

You can get a D750 for $1799 (body only) - that is the best deal out there right now IMO, it's closest competition is $4200. You would need to buy a lens for it though and that may be more than you want to spend altogether.

I have seen good sale for 70D (hv't followed for a while, not sure the newest one) pretty good price for $900 or so with a nice kit lens .. if she is used to Canon, may just stay with it...

That is a 5 year old camera now, and at $900 overpriced IMO. Current model is the 80D and pretty much Canon's entire lineup is overpriced right now since they started ignoring everyone else and adopting the "who cares, people will buy it anyway" strategy.

Plus it will be bigger and heavier, and lenses will be a lot more expensive. Stick to the 7200 or 7500.

Yeah, agreed. The D7200 is a couple years old, but a great camera and good value at that price.

I had a look at the 7200, 7500 and canon 80D. I’m leaning towards the Nikon 7200 as the price is quite reasonable but I think the wife would want the tilting touchscreen from the 7500. Either way I think I’m going to end up with Nikon this time around.

I didn't say otherwise. OP also did not list a budget or size preference. All I said was it's currently the best deal I've seen. You can actually get them for $1560 CAD right now which is pretty nuts. Pair that with a refurb 24-120/4 VR and you're at around $2K for a hell of a combo, not a whole lot more than the D7500 kit.

Can't go wrong with either of those, they are easily the best choices in their respective price ranges at the moment.
