Its been a while since I bought computer parts, but over the years I definitely spent a bit with them. Being in Red Deer, they were like a godsend as there were zero computer stores there (compusoft frigging suck, they dont count and their prices are absurd).

They have been done for ages. Newegg and Amazon plus a few other Canadian etailers killed them off.

Haven’t bought from them for a few years, their water cooling selection was much better than any local store, sadly when I checked a few months ago they were out of stock on most water related cooling.

Their watercooling section was good because of Linus.

Use this store if you need stuff and Canadian https://dazmode.com/store/

I had noticed that for a while. Everything used to be in stock, then nothing at all. Could tell that things were amiss.

Need to buy a bunch of stuff to start my build from him. His selection and pricing is great, especially with the limited availability of items in Canada and his videos are very informative to help make decisions.

Used to buy most of my items from them due to their greater variety of stock compared to memx, but now that memx has their pricing on track, have been buying from them with some random newegg items.
Didn't they also have some sub stores as well under different names?

That is the one I was thinking of. Always used to use that to price match back in the day at memx.

Kinda sad to see them go, I think I've been ordering from them for 15 years...

Gonna date myself here, but I bought my first new "IBM compatible" (a 386, 40mhz) back in the late 90's from NCIX while they were a tiny operation with just one storefront and no e-commerce. I recall at the time wondering if they were going to be a reputable company since they were brand new.

Only found out a week ago about their growth, and today about their subsequent failure.

End of an era - which I totally missed.

Or remember Mem-X operates from a 400sqft spot somewhere in the south in the early 90s?

Supplying PCs were a legit SMB back then in the 90s.

NCIX grew to fast and add far to much overhead in a very short time. Richmond had 3 locations, Burnaby, Langley and Coquitlam. Also had their Ontario locations.

I haven't bought from NCIX in a while, or used them for price matches. They never seemed to be the cheapest and shipping was always really expensive on the things I checked. It sucks to lose some competition though, the more stores the better as far as I'm concerned.

I couldn't remember the last time I ordered from them so I had to log in and check. 2011 was the last time and 2006 before that.

Speaking of now-defunct computer chains, anyone remember CompuSmart?

3rd ST and 60th Ave SW, I used to take the train after school and get off at Chinook, and wander over there to buy my ram. I remember when I saved for a year to buy a 20GB HDD. Still have the reciept somewhere at my folks place, Barracuda 7200RPM ATA 100, 319.99. hahaha

Wasnt it previously a bank, and they used the vault as, well, a vault, lol.

I used to buy from them more a decade ago. Mind you, the main system here at my feet is basically all parts from them bought two years ago.

MemX is great for emergencies locally, but price is king for generic commodity parts (like Intel processors)

They did have one of the most extensive collections of heatsinks and esoteric hard to find parts. I distinctly remember trying to hunt down a fanless power supply and they were the only ones who had them in stock.

My "whole ham" 10 nm purchase might go to MemX. I just wonder if they will have 32 core systems by then, lol.

Memex is opening a bunch of stores in BC. One just opened in Langley, two upcomers in Vancouver and Burnaby. One in Richmond too but not sure how long that's been there.
