Default No Alberta plates on Saskatchewan government job sites

    http://www.timescolonist.com/alberta...now-1.23121832

EDMONTON — Alberta says Saskatchewan has served notice that as of right now no vehicles with Alberta licence plates are allowed on any Saskatchewan government job sites.

That is a change from last week, when Saskatchewan said the ban would apply only on future government road and building projects.

Alberta Economic Development Minister Deron Bilous says if the plate ban is not reversed by midnight, Alberta will take Saskatchewan to court on the grounds it is violating free-trade rules.

Bilous says Alberta will announce additional retaliatory actions Thursday.

Bilous says he spoke this week with Saskatchewan Infrastructure Minister David Marit and Trade Minister Steven Bonk, but they could not provide credible rationale for the ban.

Saskatchewan has said the ban is to retaliate against similar rules on Saskatchewan plates on Alberta job sites, but Bilous says those rules don't exist.

I'd be happy if they banned Saskatchewan license plates on the deerfoot.

Further proof of how stupid Brad Wall and his retarded party minions are over in Saskatchewan. It's straight up a violation of the constitution so good luck with that...

Thought this was a joke but then saw this on google. Looks like it’s retaliation for the taxes on microbreweries or something?

I’m helping build the new hospital in North Battleford, so I will find out in the new year how many government stooges I need to tell to get fucked. I guarantee nobody on-site will give a shit.

Yeah the Sask government hasn't specifically said why, but that is the guess that it was based on recent changes to liquor rules (we greatly changed the system to encourage investment).

Further, it really pissed me off that Danielle Smith on the first day was saying on the radio (para-phrasing here) "now, I don't know what Alberta did, but I am sure the NDP started this". As another Redditor said "I usually like her, even though I disagree with her on policy often. I was shocked when I heard her talk like that - usually she is so pro-Alberta, anti-tax, and anti-government melding."
    Cos...

I thought this was a joke too, or maybe an off the cuff remark being reported as fact, but I have only seen the story gain steam.

It's fucking retarded if you ask me, and I read an article about how it could be counted as discrimination... It's so retarded it is entertaining.

What makes even less sense is that Brad Wall has already announced his resignation so at the moment he's doing nothing but marking time. What the hell?

This is an article from a week ago when it started. I guess some Sask. contractors were complaining that Alberta is forcing them to change plates... even though there's no evidence or law as such.

The Ministry of Highways is targeting Alberta specifically because it says Saskatchewan workers in Alberta feel forced to register their vehicles in order to work there.

"Saskatchewan contractors tell us that vehicles with Saskatchewan plates are not welcome on Government of Alberta job sites," said Highways and Infrastructure Minister and Minister Responsible for SaskBuilds David Marit.

The ban only applies to Alberta. All other Canadian licence plates are welcome on new road construction sites in Saskatchewan.

ya pretty sure they're full of if. I've been on AT jobs where 1/3 the license plates are from NS and 1/3 from Sask.. the owner and consultant didnt say boo. Maybe contractors complaining about other contractors making fun of them for coming out here..

It wouldn't surprise me if this whole thing started from one AB shithead just trying to run another SASK shithead off the crew, but the SASK shithead just happen to be a relative of someone important.

Edit: Autocorrect doesn't like the term 'shithead'.
