Mine was getting louder and I noticed the opener seemed to struggle a bit when lifting the door, so I thought it could use an adjustment. I did that manual thing where u disconnect from the garage door opener and open/close the door half way. If it stays, it's good, if it does,kt, then you'll likely need an adjustment. When I did that, I pulled the door halfway down, let go...and it fucking crashed all the way down, lifting was tough too, so that's how I knew it needed an adjustment for sure.

When the guy came in, I asked him to replace the cables as well as i've had the one side snap before.
    Same thing for me.

Can't remember which guy I called for the adjustment though. Lost his card when I was cleaning my office.

    Yup!
If your door is perfectly balance it should stay in place when you pull the cord.

I used these guys earlier this week, dude was really good and price was reasonable. He came out monday at 6pm and fixed my springs, cables, and re-adjusted the doorand the garage door opener.

Also it sounds like something to do with the cables on the side.

Called these guys for a quote. They went to my house, and my wife let them in, as she was off work today. They told me that since my opener was discontinued, they can't fix it. They quoted $650 for a chain opener, and $675 for a belt opener that they recommended. I asked about the sidemount, and after saying I don't need one (yes, but I want a lift), he told me probably $800+. Apparently after we got off the phone, his supervisor called him and they told me wife $1100?

So, I guess I need to see if I can get a better quote on a sidemount one? Otherwise I'll install it myself.

Want to buy my relatively young chain opener for cheap? :-). Best Doors came by the other day and replaced it with a wifi model. Still works.

What the hell, isn’t it just that end piece that is broken? Hard to tell from the pictures if that piece is metal but I’m sure someone with a stick welder and no welding skill could repair that.

Looks like the end is broken off though doesn’t it? You can see the ribs on both the arm and what’s left on the wall bracket

Damn i had a feeling that end was plastic as opposed to metal (would have taken a ton of force to break a metal piece now that I think about it)I was thinking if it’s metal someone with even a stick welder could fix it.

Still worth attempting a repair I think personally. Couldn’t be that hard to fab up something, whether you epoxy it and put metal bracing around it, or mount some angle iron and drill a hole for the pin.

Hate to see companies coming in and pushing the guy into a new opener because they can’t fabricate a solution. But then again it probably doesn’t make sense for them cost wise

I was thinking a 3/8" drill bit and some hose clamps

    If there's a will there's a way.

Probably failed due to too much down pressure - causing too much flex at the opener head when it's full closed.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind getting a newer wi-fi enabled opener. And it was always a long-term goal to get a side mount so I can get a lift in there one day. I just don't want to pay 1100 for a side-mount.

Thanks. Gave them a call. They quoted my 675+gst for a side mount. +75 extra for wifi. I opted to go with the wifi model, and have them booked for Monday.

Well, spring just popped on my door this morning, called B & W, said they would be here in a few hours. I'll report back on service & price.

Yeah, he was definitely prompt! Done quickly too. My door was stuck in the down position and my S2000 was parked inside. He was under an hour and a half and I wasn't home
The wife was here but from the looks of it, the car was well respected.

Checking the bill, it was 357 with the taxes and that was for 2 new springs and labour. I'm hoping I didn't pay out the rear end for this but I'm hoping from the sound of it, this is a fair price.
Fair deal. I just had Uzi from B & W over to replace the springs, cables and some kind of bracket??? $357 and he was gone in an hour. Door opens & closes much nicer now too! I'm happy and would use these guys again unless Andy gets back into the game.

Garage door spring snapped last week and Tony from Best Doors was great. Was able to get me in the same day, did a few other tweaks and it's working smoother and quieter than it's ever been. Price was $245+gst to replace both springs.

I've unfortunately had garage doors break on two houses in the last couple months. Best Doors has been able to help in both instances. Stand up guy; I wouldn't hesitate to use again in the future.
