Default What to do on computer? (I am f***in bored!)

Ok so my job has me sitting behind a desk, at times doing not much for hours on end. I surf beyond as my first thing to do, but that usually doesn't take longer than half an hour. After that, it's onto youtube to catch up on vinwiki lol. play some cell phone games and I still have 5 hours left to waste. I've played enough solitare to last me a lifetime, my best time is 1 minute start to finish haha.....

What else do you guys do online that passes time? I hate going on ebay and kijiji (always always ends up costing me money) and have to be doing something that can be interrupted from time to time due to my job.

    Thanks in advance!

If this is honestly unavoidable downtime (something I've never run into but I'll admit I have only held a couple jobs) then use the time to learn skills - even better if they are potentially job related. Pick up a language using duolingo, or learn to program, or watch videos / do tutorials on excel/word/other computer skills. If your job is spending time at a computer then beefing up computer skills is a safe bet. Find something that interests you and head down the rabbit hole.

I find "wasting" time to be frustrating, but if you find something that is fun / interesting to learn the time just flies and you feel better having learned something new.

I myself find this odd that jobs can have such large downtime.

    Anyway...

As mentioned invest In yourself. Research your hobbies (do you have any?).

    Do correspondence courses.

Start looking for a new job, doesn’t sound too secure.

I am a concierge at a high end condo here in town. My whole job revolves around sitting behind a desk, watching a few security cameras and trying to waste time. I am permitted to do basically whatever I would like, as long as the residents are being served properly. We only have 38 units here and in the winter time the building is easily half empty.
One of the biggest issues for me is that unless I commit to something 100% my heart just isn't in it. I already have a full time job, this is more of a time filler and opportunity to get my name out there a bit more.

Basically trying to see what other people do (if theres anyone else out there in a position similar to mine) to waste time.

Netflix mostly. Play a few games, kijiji, I’m not one for skill building at work. I can never focus.

I would be reading forums and discussion groups on other areas of interest - especially the ones that involve moving away from present job .... lol

Learn stuff. Teach yourself a new hobby or skill. Or, read to educate yourself on something else you're interested in.

If you prefer the entertainment route, play computer games that take forever and you can leave at a moment's notice (you know, in case work gets in the way haha). Games like Sim City or Cities Skylines time-warp you like crazy, or character based games like Path of Exile.

Netflix/Plex Pass is always an option if you just want to watch shows/movies.

Teach yourself some tech skills and start giving free advice on the relevant forums. If you are wrong, others will correct you and you’ll learn even more.

I have a desk job too. I end up watching "FBI Files" on youtube. I'm hooked and your time will fly by.

why? just curious? I make a decent wage to do not a lot of work. I just actually had to get up to get a set of keys for the guys who change all our mats on the floor. But now back to holding my chair down haha.
my full time job does require me to use my brain a lot more, and I am not looking to replace that.

honestly the hardest part about this job is getting dressed!! putting on a suit and tie and shaving is a lot of work!!! hahahahaha

I fly for a living and while we have a lot of stuff to keep us busy enroute, I’m still left with hours of downtime. Unfortunately, there’s no internet streaming of videos at altitude, so I’ve taken to reading. I don’t believe in fiction, so I try and educate myself as much as possible. It’s really rewarding to learn new shit. Sorry to sound cliche, but it is. I spent a month researching time dialation for example. Has absolutely zero benefit in my day to day life, but it was super interesting and kept me from falling asleep. Not sure if that helps, but it’s what I do.

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

I used to work in a bookshop after university back in 2000. I rediscovered the joy of reading. Lots of really good books out there.
It does not have to be fiction. I never thought I would like history or non fiction.

I also listen to Tune in radio. I have it on whilst I work, stuff like the economist and talk sport.

If your into finance, I read up a little on companies ,stock etc (im not very good at it). But a good in sight on who owns what and if they are making any money.

If your really bored and want time to fly. You can play civilsation online.

x2 for learning some new languages. Tons of options for this too, many which are free. The ones that cost aren't expensive either - not only is it diverting, it IMO greatly improves not just your resume, but you life and understanding of the world and other cultures and places. Even history, if you choose to learn something like Latin/etc.

If learning a language choose one for somewhere you want to travel. Helps to keep you motivated if you are working towards a big trip.
