My boss wants to know whether the Steelcase Gesture with headrest is better than the Herman Miller Embody. How say the experts here?
Call both dealers and have a sample chair delivered. Test drive them both.

Agreed....test them both. It will be a little more difficult considering covid protocols (you have to make an appointment) at the dealerships but that's the best way to go. I don't have any contacts at COI (HM dealer) anymore but I can give you a couple of names at RGO (Steelcase) dealer. One thing to consider is who is going to use the chair. If it is more than one person and they are of significant difference in size you may have issues with the Embody. They are sized in A, B or C sizes. The Gesture comes in one size that can accommodate the percentile.

Are the prices better through COI/RGO vs online directly from HM for instance?

Should be better unless Herman Miller has its annual Summer sale.Typically though major manufacturers don't deal direct. Not sure how much of a deal you will get on an Embody. More likely to get a deal on an Aeron because they buy them in bulk and stock them. They also might have used /refurbished chairs that will still have full warranty.

The other thing is with COVID you probably can't get a chair directly shipped from Herman Miller. All the manufacturers have restrictions on shipments and they will fill dealer orders before individual ones that require over the border shipping. Also, I don't know specifically which chair plant these come from. They may come from Michigan where they are based or from mexico where most of the manufacturers have moves some chair facilities. You are going to run into the same issues with RGO / Steelcase so it would be best to call ahead to inquire about lead times.

You are right. I do recall Steelcase factories running at full capacity to keep up with the backlog in Q1. Thank you for the information.

When your ready to get one remember there are two different back designs. Regular and wrapped back. The wrap back has a bit more square shape to the top of the back and looks better. You can also save money by doing a "value package" Its kind of like the Model T, as long as you buy all black, you save money.

Excellent points. I'm thinking I should come over and try the Leap to see if it could work since it's cheaper. But fuck the Gesture just fits so perfect why bother lol

I need to get one of these bougie chairs one of these days, someone I feel like my ikea special from 20 years ago isn’t cutting it?

Wrapped is just purely aesthetics, right?

Anyone know where I can get steelcase parts (replacement gas cylinder for the Think chair I got from a beyonder), aside from RGO? I’ve spoken with the parts lady twice now and she’s committed to sending me a quote/invoice, but it’s been 2 weeks and still nothing. I get that they aren’t really a retail business, and I’m their lowest priority, so I’m not mad about it... I just don’t know where else to go.

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.

My farts tend to be acidic. I have to lift my cheek or discoloration occurs. This is on a cheap Ikea chair. Swedish people must not fart a lot.

Chair Bros. Made me think of you.

This cropped up on an ad today for me but looks like a 15% off sales for Hernan Miller ending today.

RurrJurr, they even have a bougie tissue box I figured you would be all over.

$1500 CAD for an Aeron??....BIG RIP OFF. You should be able to get them for just under $1k from COI Fully loaded. That whole site is a rip off. Keep in mind if you shop from a site that carries many of the main business furniture lines you aren't going to get as good a price as going to your local dealer. I'm quite surprise they are authorised to sell both Haworth, Herman Miller, Knoll and Human Scale.
